Tell Washington Legislature:
Hands off our ORV Fund!
Price, UT (3/31/2009)
- Dear BRC members, supporters and action alert
subscribers, Our partners in Washington State
have just forwarded us information on an important
issue that needs IMMEDIATE ACTION.
Tod Petersen, Political Action Committee Chairman
for the Washington Off-Highway Vehicle Alliance
(WOHVA)
just emailed with word that the budget proposal
released today by Washington State House Ways
and Means Committee steals ALL of our Nonhighway
and Offroad Vehicle Activities (NOVA) funds for
the next two years and puts it in the general
fund.
Tod reports that the House Ways and Mean Committee
will hold a hearing today, only hours after the
bill language was released to the public. This
would appear to violate Washington State House
Rules.
The Proposed bill is online:
http://leap.leg.wa.gov,
/leap/Budget/Detail/2009/ho0911bill_0331.pdf
Other supporting reports:

Tod is asking us to alert all BRC members in
Washington State and ask that you contact Ways
and Means committee members immediately.
Please contact members of the Washington State
House Ways and Means Committee and tell them NOT
to rob the NOVA account.
Contact info is below along
with a few talking points. Be polite. Be brief.
Do it NOW!
Thanks in advance for your involvement,
Ric Foster

PS: Please pass
this important alert on to your friends and family,
and please ask them take action as well.

Please DO NOT redistribute
funds intended for the Non Highway and Offroad
Vehicle Activities account.
This account was
created when offroad vehicle users volunteered
to waive their legal right to a fuel tax
refund in exchange for a self-directed state
account to provide funding for programs
that benefited offroad vehicle activities.
These same citizens
volunteered to have their license tab fees
increased so long as those monies were also
placed in the Non Highway and Offroad Vehicle
Activities (NOVA) account.
To redirect the funding
away from the NOVA account would be nothing
short of stealing from the very same citizens
that willing gave the state their hard earned
money.
Furthermore, these
funds are protected by the Washington State
Constitution, Pursuant to Article II, Section
40 these monies must be used for their intended
purpose or refunded. The State Supreme court
has repeatedly reaffirmed this requirement.
