2006 39th Baja 1000 Update
Wes Miller Stabbed, Clifton Beasley & Will McCampbell
Injured
Ensenada, Baja California (11/17/06)
– Just over one week ago, Wes Miller was stabbed
in the back with a 6-8 inch blade while in a bathroom
in Mexico. Wes was able to remain standing and turn around
to confront his attackers. The attacker then fled the
scene along with several other Mexicans, and Wes Miller
was treated for his knife wound. Luckily, no vital organs
were pierced by the blade, and he was treated and released
from the hospital.
Amazingly, Wes Miller planned to still compete in the
Baja 1000, which began on Thursday, November 16th. The
2006 Baja 1000 is reportedly one of the roughest races
in years, and there have been numerous serious injuries
reported. Mike Penland’s teammate Will McCampbell
has been reportedly hit by a trophy truck, which destroyed
the ATV, but there isn’t any word on the seriousness
of McCampbell’s injuries.

Also, Clifton Beasley also wrecked, and it was originally
reported his leg was broke, but it was a false report
and Clifton is actually Ok, and there is still no word
on the Will McCampbell's condition.

More good news, Mike Penland's ATV wasn't destroyed
as originally reported, but it was seriously damaged
and needed extensive repairs, and it has been confirmed
that McCampbell was transported to the hospital, but
the his condition is unkown. Mike Penland was able to
repair the ATV and finish the race.
Richie Brown continues his solo mission to finish the
Baja 1000, and he is only a few hours from the finish,
so it appears he will complete the race.
As more information becomes available on Wes Miller
and the rest of those ATV racers competing in the Baja
1000, the information will be released ASAP.
