
Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 to air

As one-hour sports special on NBC TV
Los Angeles, CA (12/5/05) - The 38th
Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will be broadcast
Saturday, December 10 at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time, Noon Pacific)
as a one-hour sports special on NBC TV. Part of the continuing
coverage of the six-race 2005 SCORE Desert Series, the
Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 was held on Nov. 18-19, on the
northern part of the rugged Baja California, Mexico, peninsula,
starting and finishing in Ensenada.
With a near race-record 342 starters competing in 24
Pro and 5 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks, motorcycles
and ATVs, the team of Larry Roeseler, Hesperia, Calif./Troy
Herbst, Las Vegas, successfully defending their overall
4-wheel vehicle and unlimited Class 1 titles in the
granddaddy of all desert races.
Steve Hengeveld, Oak Hills, Calif./Johnny Campbell,
San Clemente, Calif./Mike Childress, Wrightwood, Calif.,
teamed up to give American Honda its ninth consecutive
Overall and Class 22 motorcycle victory.
Another one-hour special on the legendary event will
air three times in December on the Outdoor Life Network
(OLN) with the first airing set for Sunday, December
18 at 9 p.m. (ET) and 9 p.m. (PT).
With entries from 31 U.S. States and 12 countries,
the legendary race featured the world’s best desert
racers along with a host of crossover racers including
NASCAR’s Robby Gordon and Michel Jourdain Jr.,
2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice, two-time Champ Car
World Series point champion Sebastian Bourdais, and
X-games and Supercross star Travis Pastrana. Television
stars competing this year included Jesse James of Monster
Garage, Patrick Dempsey of Grey’s Anatomy, and
Chip Foos of Overhaulin’.
Adding to the coverage of this year’s historic
event will be a two-part series on Discovery Channel’s
Monster Garage in January and a two-hour special on
the making of the 2005 Tecate SCORE Baja 500 and the
Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in air on Discovery HD in early
spring of 2006.
Airing on OLN on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at 3 p.m. (ET,
Noon PT) will be Travis Pastrana’s Baja Diaries.
Testament to the difficulty of this year’s 708.8-mile
course, there were only 163 ‘survivors’
out of the original starting field who made it to the
finish line inside the Deportivo Antonio Palacios baseball
stadium within the 30-hour time limit.
December will see six hours of national network and
cable television of 2005 SCORE desert races.
