ITP/Moose ATVA National Motocross Championships
The Low Down on “The Wrangler"
The ATVA Circuit’s Newest Venue
Morgantown, WV (1/9/06) - The opening
round of the ATVA National Motocross Championships on
February 4-5th is once again at the historic Glen Helen
Raceway in San Bernardino, California. Just one week
later, February 11-12th, “The Wrangler”
will be held at Oak Hill Motocross Park in Alvord, Texas
- one of four exciting new locations on the circuit
for 2006. So for those planning to attend the inaugural
event, here’s your Texas low down.
The Oak
Hill MX Park is less than an hour’s
drive north/west of Forth Worth, TX in the countryside
with an abundance of oak trees, ponds and open range
for a true Texas look and feel. The facility is located
on 200 acres with plenty of parking and accommodations.
For those planning on camping at the track, there are
over 200 motorhome hook-ups with electric and water.
The parking area surrounds the majority of the track,
providing optimum viewing from the pits. Kids will stay
entertained at the KTM PlayLand, equipped with a play
set, sand box, and the volley ball, tetherball, basketball,
and horse shoe courts
Oak Hill MX is a spectator friendly venue with seven
sets of bleachers along the track - two of them in the
infield area accessible via tunnels on opposite sides
of the track to allow quick access from one side of
the facility to the other. In addition, the scoring
tower’s upper deck is open to the public providing
a phenomenal bird’s eye view of the facility.
The motocross track is plenty long for a national event
and has a concrete starting line with a pneumatic gate.
The track itself has an interesting mix of obstacles,
including doubles, table-tops, step-ups, step-downs,
and whoops, combined with some elevation changes to
provide for exhilarating racing action. The most distinctive
section of the track is a 13-whoop stretch positioned
along a sweeping turn, appropriately named the “Baker’s
Dozen”, which is sure to impress even the most
experienced racers.
The terrain is a mixture of sand and clay, but the
majority of the track is sand with sections of hard
clay, so be prepared for sand whoops and distinctive
lines developing during the race. More importantly,
all the obstacles are built using clay, so the jump
faces and landings will be able to hold up to several
hundred racers pounding them lap after lap. To eliminate
single line racing, the track averages over 25 feet
wide, with five sweeping turns sporting optional inside/outside
lines to provide for even more passing opportunities.
Track Manager, Craig Martin, is extremely excited about
hosting an ATVA National Motocross event, and seeing
how until now, there has never been an all-ATV event
held at the facility. “I believe the track layout
and facility will be one of the best you attend all
season,” said Martin, “We’re really
excited about working with the Racer Productions crew.”
Racer Productions, producer of The Wrangler National,
has years of experience producing ATV Nationals, with
such successful events as the ATV Stampede at High Point
Raceway in Mount Morris, PA, and the granddaddy of all
ATV Nationals – Loretta Lynn’s Dirt Days
at Hurricane Mills, TN.
For those who want to get a jump-start on season, the
Texas Quad Racing Association (TQRA) will be hosting
the “National Warm-Up” at Oak Hill MX track
on January 14-15th, providing the perfect opportunity
to fine-tune your skills at the Oak Hill track before
“The Wrangler “scheduled for February 11-12th.
