We Can't Afford the Enormous
Cost of Trash Service!
Do the Right Thing... Pack it Out!
Why? Like everything else in today's world, the
cost of providing visitor services at the Imperial
Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) is going up.
Under the current federal funding process the
primary source of money to operate the recreation
area is the "Recreation Fee" that we
pay. Under present conditions, the Bureau of Land
Managment (BLM) receives very limited federal
appropriations earmarked for operating expenses.
The BLM El Centro Field Office is required to
manage the recreation area with the fees they
collect from ISDRA visitors to pay for day to
day operating costs. The recreation fee is based
on total cost recovery by BLM since the ISDRA
is allocated limited funding from appropriated
federal dollars as well as other sources.
Looking ahead for next season, we could see a
reduction in dumpster availability. This cost
reduction measure may be necessary in order to
maintain other visitor services for the recreation
area.
YOU CAN HELP!
You can help reduce ISDRA operating
costs if you "Pack It Out." If there
are no availiable dumpsters or the dumpsters are
full "Pack It Out." Eliminating trash
dumpsters can amount to a savings of $500,000
per season. This next season, plan to "Pack
it Out" and remember that any trash left
on the ground is considered littering and you
could be fined!
