2012 Rally
on the Rocks - Moab, Utah SxS / UTV Riding Event
::Continued::
Along the trail we were lucky enough to run across
a truck and Jeep club that was playing on the
hills around Devil’s Highway Hot Tub. There
was a large group gathered around the tub so naturally
we were curious and headed over to see what they
were watching.

We
found this flipped over Jeep at the bottom
of the Devil's Hot Tub - a popular, but
extremely difficult climb on the Hell's
Revenge Trail in Moab, Utah |
|
The
Escalator is another popular destination
along the Hell's Revenge Trail but it was
off limits for SxS / UTV drivers for the
2012 Rally on the Rocks |
To our surprise, flipped over at the bottom of
the Devil’s Highway Hot Tub was a Jeep that
was unable to make it out of the tub! We watched
as other members of the club teamed up and used
two winches to twist the Jeep right side up and
in the right direction. Somehow the Jeep survived
with little damage after rolling it fifteen feet
backwards on the hard rocks.
Further down the trail was another obstacle called
the Escalator which was hard to even climb on foot!
The obstacle featured one off camber crack that
ran down the face of the slick rock. Only one truck
from the Toyota Truck Club climbed the Escalator.
It was cool seeing a truck climb such a feat! A
couple of times the truck had one tire over 4 feet
off the ground. Unfortunately, both the Devil’s
Highway Hot Tub and the Escalator were not part
of the Rally on the Rocks but may be included in
next year’s event. This was due to a combination
of permits to use the land for the event and safety
issues.
There were, however, a few tamer yet challenging
obstacles along the trail that were available
for the Side-by-Sides at Rally on the Rocks. A
few of the longer hill climbs had me on the edge
of my seat as we kept climbing the reach the top.
There were also a few off-camber rock climbs that
tested the ground clearance and wheel travel of
the Side-by-Sides.

Arctic
Cat showed off their new Wild Cat 1000 HO
SxS in their display area, but they also
offered free driver demos in their Wild
Cat 1000 H.O., which was a big hit among
those in attendance |
This year Arctic Cat was the title sponsor of
the 2012 Rally on the Rocks. Arctic Cat had their
Arctic Cat WildCat 1000 H.O. SxS / UTV on display
and also offered demo rides at the event. The
demo test track was over a mile long with many
different kinds of terrain including high speed
sections, berms, sand whoops, and rock climbs
that gave you a good idea of what the Arctic Cat
WildCat SxS was capable of.
“When you build a machine with 18 to19
inches of suspension travel you want showcase
it and there is no better place than at Moab,
Utah. So we partnered with Rally on the Rocks
as title sponsor this year. We have a demo track
and were putting people in the seats and letting
them have some fun in the Arctic Cat WildCat Side-by-Side.”
Said Arctic Cat's Kale Wainer.
