2009 Kawasaki
Tecate Fest Weekend of Fun at Winchester Bay
Winchester Bay, OR (6/25/2009) -
Tecate Fest isn’t your typical sand dune festival.
You won’t find anyone running a $20,000 drag
bike looking to be crowned king of the dunes. There’s
no vendor row, show’n shine or major manufacturer’s
on hand offering demo rides. (Though Steve Jasper
will probably let you throw a leg over any one of
his eight Kawasaki Tecates.) No this group of passionate
duners gets together once a year to celebrate a
shared interest in one of the greatest sport quads
ever made. At least to this bunch, the Kawasaki
Tecate KXF 250 remains the real king of the dunes.
The idea for Tecate Fest came about when two
of the event founders happened upon each other
on a riding trip to the Oregon dunes. With a common
interest in the classic Kawasaki Tecate, they
decided to make the trip an annual event and spread
the word to involve other Tecate fans from around
the country. The following year they held the
first Tecate Fest in Florence Oregon. They managed
seven Tecate’s the first year, nearly double
that to 13 the following year, and tripled it
this year as the running total was 21. That’s
a lot of green in one camp!

This year’s event was held in Winchester
Bay, Oregon. “The event moves from place
to place each year to allow event goers a chance
to experience the different duning areas along
the Oregon coast,” explained Mike Chick
owner of Rockhound Motorsports, the events title
sponsor. Many people have only heard of Glamis
or St. Anthony and fail to realize that Oregon
has the largest expanse of coastal sand available
for off-road riding. Aside from a shared love
for the Tecate, everyone at the event simply loves
riding sand dunes and wants to encourage more
folks to experience it. One first time attendee,
John Caito, made the trek all the way from Rhode
Island.

The event
attracted a wide array of Kawasaki Tecate's
from stock to highly modified, but regardless
of the modifiactions or condition, everyone
had a blast ripping up the sand
