John Deere RSX 850i Gator SxS Deer Bow
Hunting
::Continued::
Receiving our John Deere RSX850i just the day before, we joked that we would probably have no success and not be able to enjoy the work and time saving it could afford.

Several deer have been spotted in front of the tree stand days before opening season |
As I pulled the Gator behind the house, I thought back to all the pictures we had of deer crossing in front of his stand and as the grey light filtered away the darkness, I knew that mere minutes could be left of him being the only presence at the stand. Opting to stay away from the area to allow him a completely undisturbed hunt, all I could do was wait.

Ryan Hill draws back his bow aiming at his first deer of the season |
What seemed like an eternity passed as the morning
came to life. The clock was right at 7:30 am, a
time proven by the trail camera to be prime time
for deer to be within his range. On the stand, Ryan
indeed had deer around him as he remained perfectly
still. Time passed like snow melting as a young
Doe fed towards him. Closer and closer it came as
he took up tension on his string. The hours of practice
were about to pay off as the deer was now at 17
yards. At full draw, the arrow was on its way and
found its mark. Bounding away, the deer did not
travel 50 yards before expiring.
The story was relayed several times as we slowed
to a stop, a young hunter who now joined the ranks
of bow hunters world wide who have secured game
with bow and string for eons. The early hunters
did not have a snazzy John Deere Gator to help
haul out their quarry however so we indeed felt
blessed by the work saving hauling capabilities.

Young
bow hunter Ryan Hill makes his way back
to the tree stand to try to snag another
deer before the sunset |
New to our state was the ability to take two deer in a day and Ryan was amped about the chance to take another deer. The mornings process repeated itself as once again he exited the Gator and with a nod, he was once again slipping into his tree stand. Forty three minutes later, he was asking me if I thought the John Deere had another haul left in it! Not only had he taken his first deer with a bow, he had indeed taken another, this time a 5 point buck! I tried containing my excitement for him but my grin equaled his as I brought the Gator to a stop.
The story quickly unfolded as he pointed to the edge of our food plot where he had first noticed movement as the buck emerged. There was no time for being nervous he claimed as the buck quickly skirted the food plot and was now at ten yards.
