2012 Coal
Creek OHV Spring ATV & SxS Jamboree Riding
Event
::Continued::
Heading back out from a quick trailside break,
the trails were filling fast as everyone wanted
to get in a ride or two before many of the weekends
activities got underway. Everything from rock
crawling, an ATV rodeo and mud pit, to a full
blown obstacle course awaited those brave enough
to enter and have their shot at glory and prizes!

|
There
was a challenging obstacle course that tested
man and machine |
The
ATV Rodeo was a popular event this year
at the Coal Creek ATV / SxS Jamboree |
Well managed, the entire weekend seemed to flow
like one giant mechanized blur, with so much to
do and so much to see, one would be hard pressed
to get every trail ridden and every event in as
the weekend flew by. Night rides were run and
on more then one occasion, an all day excursion
was planned by various groups including guided
rides provided by the knowledgeable staff.
|
|
There
were guided ATV & SxS tours available
for riding groups throughout the day |
The history of this area comes alive when you
are told about the coal mine that once flourished
the region which was opened in 1905. Looking at
the all but sealed mine entrance and remaining
iron tracks, one could see easily how hard this
lifestyle was and here we were over a hundred
years later zipping to and fro over ground that
saw so much sweat and hard work that was needed
to help build this country.
 |
The
Coal Creek OHV riding area sits on over
72,000 acers of ATV & SxS riding trails
on a century old coal mine. The old sealed
mine entrances & iron track can still
be found |
There are hidden gems littered all over the region
that with some prodding from locals or the staff,
can make for an all day hunt for artifacts and
remnants of days gone past. Truly a one of a kind
feature that lens itself to more then just a jaunt
down a trail!
The day may end for many when the sun sets, but
at this event, the Windrock Park offers a more
plush atmosphere that allows a dusty rider the
chance to hit up one of the many bathhouses to
clear the days adventure and get ready for the
nighttime activities. With Oak Ridge just minutes
away, many loaded up and headed out for a night
on the town only to return for another day of
exciting fun. Families and riders of all ages
and skill levels cruised the many roads as the
weekend wore on and judging by the laughter and
smiling faces, a good time was being had by the
masses.
The Spring Jamboree at Coal Creek is indeed a
success and is building annually as many mark
their calendars to make the jaunt with family
and friends. The staff may be small in number,
but their hospitality and willingness to offer
help in any form is huge. The general feeling
of family just spills out of everyone which could
be due to the region itself, or it could be the
fact that almost every want or need is or has
been addressed. From the people in town and businesses
to the trail head, you are made feel welcome and
wanted which for many in our sport is a new experience.
Be sure to check out the Coal Creek and Windrock
Park websites for additional events scheduled
this year as they are many and vary in structure.
We had an excellent time at Coal Creek and we
know you will too!
