Preparing
for ATV / UTV Maintenance - Work Space / Cabinets
::Continued::
ATV
& UTV / SxS Maintenance Work Space –
Shop |
Having a well-lit and open work area is a bonus,
but if you’re like me, the garage is a shared
domain with my better half, so you build out your
side of the garage to best suite your needs. The
first thing to do is have good lighting because
you want the maximum amount of visibility to work
on your ATV or SXS, which is key. Get a good drop
light if the ceiling mounted lights are not in
your budget. You have to be able to see your work
piece or something is bound to get lost or over
looked because you couldn’t see or find
it.

A
clean work area is not only essential for
working on your ATV or UTV but it will also
make it easier to find tools, parts, &
dropped bolts |
Next you will want this space to be clean. If
your working on a dirt floor then get an old piece
of low pile carpet or a tarp to lay over the area
where you’ll park your machine. A tarp that
is roughly 10x12 or larger would be a great mat
and if the tarp has brass eyelets you can get
some old tent stakes to fasten it to the ground.
This will keep small parts from disappearing into
the dirt. If you have the luxury to work over
a concrete floor then simply sweep the area clean
and proceed to dig in.
ATV
& UTV / SxS Maintenance Shelving or
Cabinets |
|
Blingstar
makes several great looking storage cabinets
that will help organize & add style
to your garage or shop |
Keeping things organized is a plus and this will
make most jobs seem easier because you’re
not digging through boxes upon boxes of parts or
hardware. Shelving would be the least expensive
and well stacked, the shelving may be all you’ll
need. Cabinets can also be inexpensive depending
on where you buy your materials or prefabricated
boxes.
Most do it yourself stores have sales and even
discounted old store stock at times. If there
are any businesses going out of business around
you, you might check to see if they have store
cabinets you could just haul off!! Free is good,
but you’ll need to search good to get those
great finds. Remember though, having these items
is not going to make it impossible to get a job
done but if you do work on your rides yourself
you’ll eventually need a place to put your
chemicals and maintenance supplies.
