USA Works System Goggles include Tear-offs
& Roll-offs |
There is also a variation that combines both types
of tear-off’s and can best be described as
a holeshot tear-off on a roll-off system. Some bright
and forward thinking individual combined these two
systems to help fix an issue that racers face every
time the gate drops. A tear-off is placed over the
roll-off so that protection is afforded to the roll-off
by the tear-off at the start of the race. Does it
work? It sure does, when the conditions are right.
20 bikes heading off the gate, roost flying everywhere,
and with a quick tug, your vision is clear and you’re
heading into turn two with a clean roll-off system
ready to get you to the checkered flag.

Goggle
Lens come in a wide variety of colors for
cosmetic reason and also for different types
of riding conditions to enhance vision |
Lens color selection on many popular models can
be purely personal preference as the differing colors
of these lenses produce different effects on vision.
Colors, mirrored, gold, black and amber; the choices
can be daunting for someone who is listening to
the salesman at the dealership doing his best to
sell you the hottest pair of goggles on the market
that will send your riding buddies into a panic
when you cruise by them in the pits and loudly proclaim
by proxy that you are the coolest cat on the track!
Just be sure to get used to some of these lenses
before going out on the racetrack, as they do change
the way your brain adjusts to what your eyes think
they are seeing! Personally, give me a clear lens
any day, as I cannot adjust to the colored units,
while others swear by them. Do yourself a favor
and at least ask to walk to the window and check
them out far from the glow of the florescent lights
in a store environment.

Some
model goggles also come with a nose cup
for added protection from flying rocks and
debris along with brush on the trail |
Even more accessories await you if you look into
the different nose guards that protect the open
area between the bottom of the goggle and your
full-face helmet. These types of goggles are becoming
increasingly popular in the world of motocross
and may soon find their way to all aspects of
off-road riding. Also on the list of “must
haves” are the no fog lenses, which help
to reduce moisture build-up on the inside of your
goggles in warm or humid conditions.
One popular item that works just as it's advertised
is the Quick Strap system, which allows you to
remove the goggle from one side of your helmet,
while it remains attached to the opposite side
via a fastener that is adhered to the helmet with
heavy-duty Velcro. This makes it convenient for
those times when a quick removal and re-installation
is needed out on the trail or cruising around
the farmstead.

Take a few moments before you buy your next set
of goggles, or your first set, and think about
how the many styles and features can add to your
riding pleasure and safety. The main purpose for
goggles is protection however they haven’t
made a set that protects your eyes when they are
buried in your gear bag! With so many colors and
designs, no matter what you are looking for in
a pair of goggles, chances are you will find it.
