Thomas Brown ATV Motocross Race Report

Sanger, TX (5/25/2016) - Root River Racing / Maxxis’ Thomas Brown took fourth overall at the fifth round of the 2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship. Racing was held at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, PA.

A recurring theme for this season has been rain and muddy track conditions, and High Point was no exception. Thankfully, Brown has his mud setup down pat and with the help from Maxxis tires he was able to put together two solid motos for his top five finish. “I can not say enough the Maxxis tires.  We really had to rely on those Maxxis tires and Hiper wheels this weekend but I believe our mud set up was great,” stated Brown.

The first moto of the day was Brown’s strongest ride. He rode smart through difficult track conditions and pushed his Root River Racing Yamaha to a third place finish.

“I came out fifth in the start and made quick passes into third. Then I just fell into a groove. Natalie was putting pressure on me the whole moto, but I knew I just needed to stay in the groove and nobody was going to be able to pass. There was not much point in me pressuring the guys in front of me because there was no where to go on the track. It was really one lined which played a big effect all day, if you got out of those two ruts you were done for.”

In moto two, Brown had an issue with shifting on the uphill start which cost him the good start he desperately needed in the muddy, one lined track conditions. “I came out somewhere around tenth. A couple guys spun out right in the first corner, so I made some quick passes and fell into seventh. From then on I could not make a move. I pressured John Natalie, but I would get roosted, fall back, pull a tear off, regroup and make another charge, and repeat.”

Brown credits his sponsors for his top five finish, and is hungry to capture a win for them in the near future. “The team worked great. The Root River Racing / Maxxis / Fox / Yamaha is on point. The Fox Shox are working primo, I can’t think of a better set up.

Brown is currently placed fourth in the championship points, but it is a tight race and he is just two points behind third place John Natalie. “We are all fighting for that third place spot. Its super tight and we have all bounced around. I want to be battling for that win.”

Looking forward to the next round, Brown commented, “We are going to go home, regroup, and hopefully get good results and good weather.”

The sixth round of the 2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship will be held at a brand new track to the circuit, Monster Mountain MX Park in Tallassee, AL. Races will be held on June 4-5 and Brown will be shooting for his first win of the season.
