Root River Racing’s Pro ATV MX Race Report

La Crosse, WI (8/17/2016) - Root River Racing’s Pro rider Sam Rowe captured first overall in the Pro Am class and ninth overall in the Pro class at the eleventh round of the 2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Root River Racing’s Josh Upperman went 6-8 for an eighth place overall Pro finish.

The season may be winding down, but Root River racer Sam Rowe is not as he took his second consecutive overall win with 2-1 moto finishes in the fiercely competitive Pro Am class. “I am definitely feeling good. At Unadilla I started to find my groove. I had a rough season but later in the year I have been showing everyone what I have and what could have been this year. If a few things would have went my way in the beginning of the year I think I could have been the Pro Am champion,” explained Rowe.

The second moto of Pro Am is where Rowe really shined, taking the win by over five seconds. “I came out second right behind Dylan Tremellen and made the move on the first lap right before the finish line. Then I spread the gap for a few laps and got a cushion so I put it on cruise control. I have been putting in the work and it is showing,” said Rowe.

In the Pro class Rowe had another phenomenal ride, taking ninth overall with consistent 9-9 moto finishes despite feeling ill Saturday morning. “Pro was solid. I actually was feeling a little bit sick in the morning. I am not sure why, maybe from some food I ate the day prior. That really put a damper on the start of my day. The first moto was tough, but second moto I came around and I was starting to feel a lot better,” explained Rowe.

Rowe has been steadily getting stronger all season and this was his fourth consecutive race finishing in the top ten. “I really want to get into the top five, that is what I am working for,” said Rowe.

Josh Upperman had a solid weekend as well, finishing just above Rowe in the Pro class with eighth overall, but was hoping for more. “It was a rough go. I did not have the best starts both motos. I got lucky when Chad Wienen and Jeffrey Rastrelli got hung up first moto and caused a little pile up, I was able to get around. The heat and humidity got the best of me towards the end there, so I unfortunately was not able to push as hard as I would like to,” explained Upperman of the brutal weather conditions Loretta Lynn’s is so well known for.

Josh Upperman holds down 4th place in points heading into the Soaring Eagle MX season finale

Upperman is sitting in fourth place in the points race and is optimistic going into the final round of the season. “It is going to be a race to the very end, it will be interesting to see how things pan out. A lot can happen yet I just have to put my head down and focus and see what Soaring Eagle brings. I went there last year, it is a great facility and great track. I am excited to go back. It is going to be a fight to the end, and I am not giving up yet that is for sure,” stated Upperman.

Root River Racing’s Pro riders Sam Rowe and Josh Upperman will return to AMA ATV Motocross National Championship Racing during the twelfth and final round of the 2016 season at Soaring Eagle Resort and Casino in Mount Pleasant, MI September 9.
