La Crosse, WI (5/4/2016) - Root
River Racing competed at the third round of the
2016 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship at
Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, TN. The team
acquired three overall wins and seven podium finishes,
two of which came from Noah Michelson in Open B
and 450B.
The number 100 of Noah Mickelson proved to everyone
he came to win this season. Mickelson dominated
all four motos to take home the overall win in
both classes he entered, 450 B and Open B. Mickelson
is leading the championship points in both classes,
and will continue training hard to expand his
lead at the next round.
Logan Tremellen also took an overall win for
Root River Racing after going 3-2 in 450 C. “I
had dead last gate pick and battled into third.
On Sunday I worked my way to second to take home
my second national win. I am glad to be finally
feeling comfortable on my bike, and excited for
the preparation for Ironman,” stated Tremellen.
JoHannah Vossman clinched a second place finish
in Schoolgirl. “Getting second in Schoolgirl was
really good for my points. I battled with Kiersten
Keane the whole four laps. I just could not make
the pass to take the overall at the end, but I
am going home with a second so I could not be
more happy,” explained Vossman.
Brandon O’Neill competed in three youth classes,
and took two podium finishes. In Schoolboy Sr.,
O’Neill went 4-3 for third overall, and 3-4 for
another third overall in Super Mini. In Youth
All Star, O’Neill had issues in the first moto
that kept him from finishing, but took fifth in
the second moto.
Another podium finish came from Tommy Vossman
in 450 B. “I got top five starts in both motos.
My starts have been killing me all season, but
I got some decent ones and was able to make passes
for the top three spot,” said Vossman.
Haedyn Mickelson had a strong ride in Pro Sport,
taking sixth overall after 5-6 moto finishes.
“It rained all day Friday so I did not get any
practice in. Then Saturday morning we had a little
issue with the bike so we missed practice again
and went out for the first moto blind with no
practice at all. I had a good start but made a
mistake that I would not have if I had practice,
but I went off the track and got passed by a few
people to finish fifth. Sunday we did pretty good
and got sixth for sixth overall,” explained Mickelson.
In Pro Am, Mickelson had a strong first moto,
running in fifth until the last lap when a crash
cost him the finish he had worked for. The second
moto, Mickelson’s Hoosier Tires hooked up for
a top ten start, despite the last gate pick. “I
made some passes right away. I tried to pace myself
to save myself for the end. It worked out pretty
good and I ended up sixth. My lap times were really
consistent all the way through.”
Dylan Tremellen also competed in Pro Sport and
Pro Am, in which he took top ten finishes. “First
Pro Sport moto I came into the corner first and
got spun out, worked my way up from tenth to third.
Second moto I spun off the start and got pretty
much last. I passed a few people but could not
make any huge moves,” explained Tremellen.
In Pro Am, Tremellen went 8-8 for eighth overall.
“I was right with the top fast guys and my lap
times were within a second of the fastest, but
I just could not make many passes with the one
lined track. I’m going to put my head down and
push this next week and half.”
Root River Racing will return to the AMA ATV
Motocross National Championship at round four.
The event will be held at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville,
IN May 7-8th.

"It’s a sad and
heartbreaking day when an owner has to punish
two of his riders for violating a term of
your agreement, but it is five times worse
when one of those riders is your son. The
life and opportunities we have given these
kids is something of a dream compared to
how most of us were raised and then to be
slapped in the face by violating our trust
and disregarding one of the most important
terms of our agreement is mind blowing.
The only reason both
of these riders were not terminated from
the Root River Racing team was because after
evidence was found they admitted their wrong
doing. For that they have received a 3 race
suspension, requirement to continue training
at or above the level of current training,
to explain to each and every person on the
team why they are suspended and to attend
each of those races with enthusiasm and
support of each and every rider on this
team. I would like to say thank you to Rod
Mickelson and Dee Manshack for helping make
this decision and to everyone who came to
me this past weekend at Muddy Creek and
applauded our actions.
On a much lighter note,
the team did very well at Muddy Creek taking
home three 1st places and 5 podiums. Noah
was the Super Star again this weekend pulling
all four of his Holeshots and Moto wins
in Open B and 450 B. Logan pulled off his
second career ATV Nationals win by winning
450 C. The riders have been doing very well
on Saturday but seem a little lethargic
on Sunday so we are going to do something
different Sunday morning at the next race
to get them pumped up.
The team is very happy
with Hoosier Tires that we are now running.
Muddy Creek is known for loomy dirt and
Tacky to blue groove clay. Hoosier Tires
did a great job getting the tractions our
riders needed to get to the podium. Another
high light from the team to our sponsors
so far this season is the ever changing
and improving Motowoz shocks worked great
in the rough conditions at Muddy Creek.
Have a good one and we’ll see you at Ironman,"
