Pro Motorsports’ UTV World Championship Race Report
Matt & Jeff Hancock Take on the UTV World Championship

Tempe, AZ (2/24/2016) - Pro Motorsports racers Matthew and Jeff Hancock drove fierce races before bad luck ended their runs early during the Best in the Desert UTV World Championship ATV and UTV races.

In the ATV race, the duo’s Elka/Roll Design/Sparks/Maxxis Honda was challenging for the lead and the defending champions were hoping to repeat their winning effort from the opening round. However, while running in second place, a mechanical issue sidelined their efforts on the final lap.

“I took off at the start, drove into the first corner and pulled a nice lead,” said Matt Hancock, who started the ATV race. “The Elka shocks were working great. I knew I needed to ride my own race, and I was holding the lead. I handed the bike to my brother. He kept playing our strategy. I got back on the bike running second and then we had a mechanical failure that took us out of the race. I felt like everything was coming together and then it all went downhill. This is the first DNF we’ve had in over three years. It’s kind of a bummer, but we’re going to keep going and keep that championship in sight.”

Jeff Hancock wasn’t able to get a tow back to the finish line resulting in a DNF. With just two more rounds left and no throwaways, he said they’re ready to win the final two races.

“I was running second and we lost the motor,” explained Jeff Hancock. “Unfortunately there’s just not much to talk about today. We’re just focusing on the last two races. We already have one win on the books, so we’re going to try to win the last two to get a shot at the championship.”

In the UTV Short Course event, Matt Hancock overcame trouble at the start in his Polaris RZR and was challenging for the lead before coming into the pits for fuel. After the stop, he couldn’t get his machine to fire back up and he couldn’t finish the event.

“I had trouble getting my car running at the start and ended up going off third from last,” said Matt Hancock. “I started passing people. The course was getting faster and I wanted to make sure I had something for the end. The car just died. It was an electrical problem. I was pretty bummed about it. I had run a smooth race and was running up front. We’ll make sure its ready for next weekend.”

The Hancock team will be back in action when the WORCS Championship hits Las Vegas Feb. 26-28.
