in the Championship |
Thomas’ race weekend nearly ended before it started.
After and engine problem in practice, Chris Mills
stepped up and loaned him an engine. He had a
great start, and challenged for the lead but settled
for second in the end.
“We missed the championship by one point and
it’s a bummer, but my hat is off to Haagsma,”
said Thomas. “Second place in WORCS isn’t bad
in our second season. We were definitely on a
mission. I think we both knew what we had to do.
Once he pulled the holeshot and got ahead early
I knew I had to catch him. I was chasing my first
win today and didn’t get it. It kind of makes
me want to come back next year. We weren’t planning
on it, but we’ll see.

after Haagsma for the win |
Thomas had planned to run only a limited WORCS
campaign this year to focus on the Lucas Oil Series.
With podiums in the first three races, he decided
to finish out the season.
“We had originally planned to just run the trucks,
but we kept pouring some time into this and it
turned out well,” said Thomas. “I’m happy I stayed
with it.”
Thomas is from Georgia, so running WORCS means
a lot of travel. Noting he wanted to race against
the best, he has easily carved out a name for
himself in the competitive series.
“We originally came out here because this was
where all the big names were racing,” said Thomas.
“We wanted to come race with the best. We’ve come
a really long way in a very short time. Mystik
is on board with us next year and we’re looking
forward to it. We have a lot to look forward to
next season.”
Thomas will more than likely return to the WORCS
Series when it kicks of its 2017 SXS racing series
January 20-22 at Buffalo Bills Resort and Casino
in Primm, NV.
