in cash & prizes for the overall win
at the Durhamtown Southern SxS National |
The two-day event combined two-moto short course
races with a three-hour night long course race.
Thomas dominated all of them in his Polaris RZR,
winning both of his short course motos and running
away with the long course victory. The event was
held at Durhamtown Off Road Resort.
Mickey Thomas set up his suspension just right
for the short course races, held on a one-mile
GP Flat Track style circuit. He also had a set
of Hoosier slicks that made a huge difference.

Addict Racing's Mickey Thomas had
to stay on the gas to stay ahead of some
stiff competition during the short course
racing action |
“The Yamahas were fast out there in the short
course races, but I set the car up just right
and I had a great race,” said Thomas. “I just
tried to stay patient and I’m happy to walk away
with the win.”
Thomas started behind the Outlaw class in the
night race. With dusty conditions early on, Thomas
ran a conservative pace on the 10-plus-mile course
until the dust cleared.

Owen Motorsport's Mickey Thomas secured
his third win of the weekend in the night
race to sweep all three wins for the overall |
“I knew it was going to be super dusty at the
beginning, so I laid back and then started picking
off some guys,” said Thomas. “I tried to make
time, while keeping the car together because there
are so many trees out there and the dust was so
thick. If I lost focus for just a second, my race
would have been over. After that, I got some clean
air and it was clear sailing. I was concerned
about starting behind the Outlaw class, but it
worked out OK.”
Interestingly, Thomas had planned to sell his
race-winning RZR at the beginning of 2016. However,
after running well in the first two WORCS races,
he elected to contest the entire season and he
finished second in Pro points. Another sale of
the RZR fell through just prior to this race.

Mickey Thomas finished second the
championship battles for both the WORCS
& Terracross Series this year, and for
2017, he plans to focus on racing the Lucas
Off-Road Series in his Pro Lite Truck &
Yamaha SXS |
“It’s funny because we were thinking about getting
rid of this thing at the beginning of the year
and here we are still racing it,” said Thomas.
“I think that’s awesome. I’m just super happy
to be here and take the biggest cash prize in
UTV racing. This is my home state, so everyone
was able to come out and cheer me on.”
Thomas will compete in the Lucas Oil Pro Lite
Truck Series next season and plans to campaign
a Yamaha in SXS competition.
