Cody & Hunter Miller Both Take John Penton GNCC Podium Finishes
GNCC Racing Round 7 SxS and ATV Race Report

Greenville, TX (6/2/2016) – Can-Am’s Cody and Hunter Miller turned in competitive results at the John Penton GNCC race at Sunday Creek Raceway in Milfield, OH. Cody Miller maintained his points lead in UTV XC1 Pro with a third-place finish and netted a fourth-place in the Pro ATV 4X4 class . Hunter Miller recorded his first ever GNCC podium, finishing second in UTV XC2 Pro Sport.

Cody Miller’s third place finish in UTV XC1 Pro class maintained his healthy points lead heading into the summer break for UTV racers with a 31 point gap over second place in the championship points race.  He merely needs to finish in the top 10 in the last two rounds of the GNCC series to clinch the title. Miller has finished on the podium in all four races this season with two wins, a runner-up finish as well as the third this weekend at the John Penton GNCC.

Maxxis' Cody Miller maintained his points lead after the John Penton GNCC in the SxS Pro Class

“The Can-Am Maverick worked like a champ,” said Miller. “The Elka shocks, Maxxis tires and DWT wheels put that thing on rails. We have a really good product underneath us.”

Miller drove from 12th to record the podium. Initially he had trouble with the track’s mix of clay and mud.

“The track was slick,” said Miller. “There were some deep ruts and clay out there. It polished off and got kind of slick. I took third on the first lap and for the rest of the time I was just by myself. There was no one in front of me, so I just put in hard, fast laps. That’s the reason I was able to come back from 12th to third.”

With the next GNCC UTV race scheduled for October, Miller will have plenty of time to prepare himself and his Can-Am Maverick.

“It feels excellent to go into the summer break with the lead in points,” said Miller. “It’s hard to go out there and not put down 100% speed, but the championship is really what I’m after. I’ll make sure to go over my machine with a fine-toothed comb during the break and make sure we can finish consistently.”

In ATV 4X4 Pro, Cody Miller had trouble at the start, but quickly got moving. He was up to second place on lap two, but got caught in traffic and finished fourth. He sits fifth in the title chase, just 22 points out of the lead.

ELKA's Cody Miller finished fourth in the Pro 4x4 Class on his Can-Am Renegade

“I moved up a little here and there and got up to second on the second lap, but I got caught in a bottleneck,” said Miller. “I came around on the last lap in fourth and couldn’t make up the gap.

“The Can-Am Outlander was hauling butt out there,” added Miller. “The Elka shocks really soaked up the ruts out there. There were a lot of fast wide open field sections and the Elka suspension combined with the Maxxis Tires was really on point. The HMF exhaust sounded sweet, and the bike was definitely moving on the straightaways.”

In UTV XC2 Pro Sport, Hunter Miller drove a conservative race, outran a string of bad luck and finished second in his best finish so far this season and first ever GNCC podium.

“I pulled off a finish…that’s what I wanted to do,” said Miller. “We’ve been going fast all year, but we’ve had little issues take us out. I drove as conservatively as I could today. I had a good start on the eighth row and holeshotted my row. I caught up pretty quick, but I didn’t want to take too many chances. Eventually I made it happen to take second.

“Obviously I want to win, but you have to start somewhere,” added Miller. “We have the break now, so we’ll be racing down in Texas and getting in some practice. We’ll come out to the next one ready to go.”

The GNCC SXS classes will be back in action October 1-2 at Powerline Park in St. Clairsville, OH, while the ATVs will next race in Odessa, NY June 11-12.
