Cole Richardson turned rainy, muddy conditions
to his advantage to win his fifth consecutive
GNCC ATV XC2 Pro Am race of the 2015 season in
Springville, Ind. on Saturday, April 25. The victory
extends the YFZ450R rider’s perfect season, and
Richardson now owns a huge 40-point lead in the
XC2 standings. As well, Maxxis/Yamaha’s Chris
Borich gave Yamaha another podium with a strong
second-place finish in the XC1 Pro class, while
Kylie Ahart added a third-place podium in the
morning WXC race.

The XC2 Pro Am race went all Richardson’s way. Quickly launching into the lead, he built up a 42-second lead over fellow YFZ450R rider Blake Tornes after the first of four laps, expanded the advantage to over three minutes over rival Martin Christofferson at the halfway point, and then ultimately brought his Yamaha home nearly five minutes ahead of YFZ450R-mounted Cody Collier at the end of the event, giving Yamaha a 1-2 finish in the class. So effective was Richardson in the mud that he also beat 10 of 13 XC1 Pro riders to finish fourth overall in the combined Pro/Pro Am event.
In the premier XC1 Pro class, Jarrod McClure got the holeshot but N-Fab/AmPro/ Yamaha’s Walker Fowler soon took control on his YFZ450R, leading the first lap before retiring with a broken chain. Walker’s misfortune promoted rival Chris Bithell into the lead as Borich worked his way forward from a top-five start. Borich advanced into podium position behind Bithell and Yamaha-mounted Brycen Neal by the halfway point, and then into second when Neal likewise faltered on the final lap.
