Justin Reid Second at Willcock Holeformers
Justin Reid Wins Final British Quad Championship Moto

Northern Ireland (5/12/2015) - Not even the poor weather could dampen the spirits of Justin Reid at the end of proceedings on Saturday the 2nd of May, the Justwin Racing rider taking a superb final moto race win to finish 2nd overall and on the podium at round two of the 2015 Willcock Holeformers ACU British Quad Championship.

Making a welcome return to Northern Ireland at the former Grand Prix circuit at Porters Pit, the Quad Racing Ireland promoted event was a huge success for Reid and an excellent boost for the remainder of the series, Reid jumping four places to 5th in the series standings with just three points the deficit to 3rd.

The cold and damp conditions on race day had little effect on the excellently prepped sand based circuit, Cookstown & District MCC once again providing an excellent venue for the elite of British quad racing to do battle over three twenty minute plus two-lap heats.

Posting 5th fastest for a decent pick of gate in timed qualification, Reid bogged down slightly in the run to the sweeping first corner and headed out for the first of eleven laps in 9th. Using the first few laps to find his rhythm around the one-mile demanding circuit, Reid began to move his way up the leaderboard, slotting in to 7th as the race reached half distance.  Charging through to 6th as the two-lap board came out and circulating faster than the riders in front, Reid gained two more positions to take 4th at the chequered after twenty five action filled minutes.

As the gates dropped for the second heat of the day, Reid gated slightly better of the line to break the timing beam for the first time in 7th.  Keen to maintain touch with the leaders in the opening stages, Reid began to scythe through the field, moving up to 5th on the first full lap and making 4th his own two laps later.

Pushing hard to reel in the leading trio, Reid’s task was made all the more difficult with two-thirds of the race left to run, the gear shifter breaking leaving Reid to negotiate the technical and testing circuit stuck in one gear. Undeterred and focused on the task at hand, Reid put his years of experience to good use and with half the race run had amazingly slotted in to 3rd.  Disadvantaged in many areas of the circuit, Reid battled valiantly to hold position but was forced to ease of slightly in the latter stages to stop his bike overheating, limiting the damage to one position for 4th at the flag.

Saving the best for last as the twenty-seven strong entry took to the line for the final race of the day, Reid got superb drive and slotted in to 2nd around the first turn.  Quickly adapting to the much changed conditions, Reid took the lead on the opening lap and began to pull away from the chasing pack.  Setting a blistering pace and posting fastest lap of the race, Reid remained comfortably in control and was unchallenged much to the delight of the local crowd, cruising to a ten second winning margin at the flag and lapping everyone up to 12th.

Having secured his first British race win of the season and finishing 2nd overall on the day, a jubilant Reid commented afterwards:

“It’s always great to get a win but to get it at home in front of all the local supporters makes it all the sweeter. The track is mega rough in places so it was always going to be tough towards the end of the day. I pushed hard during the first couple of laps and could see that someone, who turned out to be Holmes was coming with me. I decided at that point to just ride my own race and look for the smooth lines, which were a little creative at times! I pulled a gap quite easily and just maintained a 10 second from about half distance to the end. Massive thanks to my team for their help and everyone’s support out there.”
