La Crosse, WI (7/28/2015) - Root River Racing’s Josh Upperman finished eighth overall at the penultimate round of the Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross National Championship. Upperman overcame rotten luck to salvage some points, and currently sits in fourth place heading into the final race of the season.
During the first moto, Upperman’s Root River Racing Honda launched out of the gate to a great start. “I had a really good start and came out second in the holeshot. I felt really good on the track, and the Root River Racing bike was working great,” said Upperman.

Unfortunately, a small mistake cost Upperman the finish he was hoping for. “I made a stupid error and accidentally pulled out the kill switch tether, which lost me about eight positions,” said Upperman, who worked his way back up to finish sixth in moto one.

More bad luck in the start of the second moto caused Upperman to dig deep and work through the pack, coming from dead last to finish tenth. “I got tangled up in the second turn with some riders, and ended up stalling the bike. I was in dead last and caught my way back up to tenth. I just had some bad luck this weekend but the Root River Racing bike was working great. Doug, my mechanic, and the whole Root River Racing team was on key, but it unfortunately just wasn’t my weekend,” said Upperman.

With just one final race left in the 2015 season, Upperman is ready to finish strong, and maintain his fourth place points position. “I know Jeffery [Rastrelli] is really close behind me. With one race left, we just have to go out and give it our all,” said Upperman.
The final round of the 2015 Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross National Championship season is on August 11th at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN.
