La Crosse, WI (4/24/2015) - Root
River Racing’s Josh Upperman took on the challenging,
brutal track at Echeconnee MX and finished in the
top ten at round one of the 2015 Mt. Dew AMA ATV
Motocross Championships.
Georgia is notorious for its clay soil, but the course at Echeconnee was a mix of sand and clay that became incredibly rough over the course of the day during Saturday’s races. Those tough conditions made a good start a key factor for this round, but the starts did not worry Josh Upperman.
As the gate dropped for the first Pro moto, Root River Racing’s Josh Upperman was in the number two spot, but dropped back to third. Upperman was running strong with the top five but Upperman suffered a crash that sent him to the back of the pack. “I knew getting out front for this race was key, and I had a good start. I came around a turn and I don’t know what happened, but I went over the berm. I got back on but then a tire was blown off the bead, so I had to make a pit stop for that,” said Upperman.

In the first Pro Moto, #20 Josh Upperman was in second off the start on his Root River Racing Honda 450R |
Upperman’s mishap sent him back to 15th place, but he never gave up. The #20 Honda mounted racer pushed hard and caught back up to the pack. Upperman made a couple of passes and was able to finish in 13th place in moto one.

Josh Upperman was able to finish ninth overall with his 13-6 finishes |
Moto two went better for Upperman as he got another good start and went on to take a sixth place finish, which gave him ninth overall for the first round of the season. “I was able to get good starts out there and I like a really rough track like Echeconnee. It was unfortunate that I went down in the first moto, but it happened,” said Upperman.

Josh Upperman will be going for a podium finish at Underground MX in Texas for ATV Motocross Round 2 |
“I am really looking forward to going to Underground MX in Texas for the next round. I raced there at the Caleb Moore Memorial race and I did really well there. I know they will do a good job on the track and we are going to be doing a little more testing so it should be a good round for us,” Upperman added.
Round number two of the 2015 Mt. Dew AMA ATV
Motocross Championships will head to Kemp, Texas
at the Underground MX track on April 18-19 where
Josh Upperman will be going for a podium finish.
