With rain-free conditions on Saturday, Hetrick took on the tough and technical track and experienced a rare “get off” during qualifying. After injuring his back and hip, Hetrick cracked off the holeshot in both motos to earn the SSI Decals Holeshot Award. After battling with Chad Wienen throughout both races, he finished second in both to record the overall second-place finish, just behind Wienen.

“This was a tough race,” said Hetrick, “but the DASA motor and the Maxxis Tires made it easy to pull the holeshots today. DASA has really been putting in the work for me and the Maxxis tires always hook up. The holeshots are simple: The bike is perfect, so it’s just my reaction time and the bike does the work.

“Jay Gobel with Elka Suspension has continued testing with me this year and today’s result shows just how great these shocks are,” said Hetrick. “The suspension played a key role in keeping me in second today. The track conditions required a lot of work out of the suspension, and the Elka shocks really came through.”

After the crash during qualifying, as well as the challenging track conditions during the motos, Hetrick was definitely tired after the hard-fought battle.

“I couldn’t really do what I wanted to do during the race,” explained Hetrick. “The bruises on my back and my hip were really hurting. Later in the race, my shoulder was getting tired. The track was just so rough, so it was really a task just staying on the bike. I pushed through out, but I’m definitely feeling it.”

Though he admitted he was sore, Hetrick is itching for the next three races where he hopes to take on Wienen in the championship. Hetrick is currently second in points, just 21 points back.

“We’d like to be a little closer, but 21 points down is not that bad,” said Hetrick. “We’ll work with what we have. We want to win the next three and make this a battle to the end.”

Round 8 of the Mt. Dew AMA ATV MX National Championship returns to Unadilla Motorsports Park in New Berlin, NY on July 11-12th where Hetrick will be looking to get back to the center of the podium as he chases after the championship.
