Holz Racing's RJ Anderson Second at Mint 400
Polaris RZR XP 1000 Racer RJ Anderson

BEST IN THE DESERT

Lynden, Washington (3/19/2015) - The third race of the 2015 Best in the Desert Season took place this past weekend in Primm, NV. Over 330 racers made their way to Vegas for what has become one of the biggest events in the sport, The Mint 400. 56+ PRO UTVs lined up for the Polaris sponsored event known as the Great American Off-Road Race.

RJ Anderson - Mint 400 BITD Racing
Holz Racing's #1934 RJ Anderson

Holz-Racer RJ Anderson filling in for car owner Scott Kiger in the #1934 Holz-built Coastal Racing Polaris RZR XP 1000. RJ and co-driver Brian MacLean from Walker Evans Racing have teamed up before (they were part of the 2013 Holz/ Coastal Baja 1000 win) but this would be their first BITD start. And they did it from the back. Starting over fifty cars deep, the #1934 rolled off the line into the blazing sunrise and hanging dust that The Mint is known for.

Anderson put the pedal down and drove his way to the front. Throughout the race he was working his way to the front and on corrected time was chipping away positions as the miles clicked off. At race mile 62 - 14th place, race mile 122 - 10th place, race mile 184 - 5th place, race mile 244 - 4th place, and race mile 306 - 2nd place and race mile 366/finish - 2nd place. It was a matter of calculations at the finish as everyone waited to see who would claim the win. RJ drove the first and last lap while Larry Job hopped in the car for the 2nd lap. With the exception of a flat tire at the end of the race (which they ran in on) they had a clean run. They spent 7:31:22 on course and a race average of 48.7mph on a stock motor and transmission.

ā€œIā€™m proud of what those guys were able to do today. They drove smart and charged. To start 50 cars deep and almost make it to the top of the box is a solid performance.ā€ said Mark Holz

The 2015 season is in full swing. Next up, Beau Baron, RJ Anderson, Mike Gardner and Ronnie Anderson will head to Lake Havasu, AZ for Round #4 of the WORCS Series with their HRP/Polaris RZR XP 1000s and Ryan Holz will be getting in more seat time in the #58 Polaris/Holz/Walker Evans car.
