I trail ride my EX all the time, here in Arizona the trails are rocky in the local area's, and forestry up north. So I ripped off all my plastic gaurds and replaced them with aluminum (Swingarm, central frame, and A arms). Definitely the best investment i've made in my quad so far, I never realized how many times you can hit rocks with your swingarm, and that plastic just wouldn't last long at all.

When I bought my 400 brand new back in '05 I managed to rip the stock plastic skid off of the swingarm in about 10 minutes of riding on my local trails. And not just one part, the ENTIRE thing got ripped off. The only thing that was still on was where the bolts were holding it on. I immediately replaced it with a Pro-Armor that lasted up until last year when I installed the GT link and had to get their skid.

Snapped this while taking a water break this weekend. She's stock right now (minus an air filter) but just bought a white bros slip on exhaust which I will combine with a modified air box and then jet (all at same time) this winter.

Man, what a great weekend to ride….the weather was literally perfect! I did get the bearings installed in the new carrier and got it all put back together. It was my first time so it took me a lot longer than expected, but I know it will go much quicker next go around. I also adjusted the valves for the first time. Likewise, it took a little longer than expected but after I did it a second time (to get it just right) it was much quicker. I bought my first house early this year and unfortunately it doesn't have a garage so I'm stuck under the porch (walk out basement) doing all the work on my quad, which doesn't make things any quicker. A man needs a good garage.....guess I'll have to wait a few more years when we move.

At first when I joined this site I didn’t understand the seemingly obsession with mods…..the 400ex felt fast enough stock to me. But being out on the trails and doin some drag racing with other 400’s made me want to get more out of my motor so I’m excited to do a few simple, yet effective mods this winter.

It was a nice last weekend to ride up here, was in the 60s saturday and we all went into the mountains for probably the last time until spring. Today we got our first snow, and I really wanna go out and play in it but have to work today.

Made my first trip to Perry State Forest in Ohio on Saturday 11/2/13. Had some expert hill climbers showing me around and wow there are a lot of hill climbs although I didn't get any pics of the big ones.

My 416EX on the left riding with a couple 450's and a CR500:

    Current quads:
    - Honda TRX 400EX - fully built 416cc motor and full XC racing setup for fast trail riding and hill climbing
    - Kawasaki Prairie 650 - work quad for around our property and main quad for the wife to ride
    - Suzuki LT80 - kids quad
    - Honda TRX 350RX - my old school hybrid MX quad from the 90's that has a 250R chassis with a built 350X motor and has now been converted into a XC setup

Previously owned several other sport quads and a few trikes over the years.

Those hills look fun. That's the kind of stuff I like, nice steep, long or short hill climbs. I can tell by the way he's leaning over the front that those are pretty steep. That's the stuff that separates the men from the boys.

No problem, not only do the leaves cover up some of the obstacles as you mentioned but they are damn slippery too! Some of the hills were about impossible the first few tries until the leaves were flung off the path.
