Oh man the oven smells great. The chicken we baked really has a zing to it now too. LOL JK! I too will be looking to trade up my AC skid soon. I came up on a hidden rock the other week and it put a nice sized gouge and dent right in the center without hesitation, but hey it did its job thats all I can ask for.



Have you ever even riden this bike? It looks brand new!! LOL! I don't know how some people keep their bikes so clean, I tried for years to keep it spotless but gave up, its way to much work. I mean I wash my bike after every ride but not with a toothbrush. Plus in Oregon, it rains alot so there is quite a bit of mud sometimes.

I ride it all the time actually. I am just anal about a clean bike. It takes me about 3.5 hrs to clean it like that after I ride it, but I only do one of those cleans when I know it wont be ridden again in a week or two. If I know im going to be riding it again in the next couple days pressure wash it, clean and lube the chain and its good to go!

well I have just discovered that when you are doing the 450r carb upgrade,.....

and you have a Motion Pro twist throttle,....

a OEM 450r throttle cable, ....
(which is mandatory for the carb installation on a 400EX)....

WILL NOT FIT/WORK with the M. P. twisty.

DANG IT !!!

So now I will have to return the OEM cable, and get a M.P. cable for a 450r, to work with my twisty.

got to finally take the new KTM through some trails, in comparison th ethe 461ex i had, it does have less power, but accelerates faster, but then has a lower top speed, but wayyy sweeter suspension. rode about 100 miles i would guess.

I finally figured out what the he77 my problem has been, getting the 450r carb dialed in.
(no I'm Not going to tell you, because that would be admiting what a dumbass I am !!!)
99.9% sure I've got it now, but it's 11:30pm, and a bit late to be running the quad.
(for some strange reason, the neighbors get upset when I fire off the Big Gun after 8pm. ..go figure!)
Tommorow my alarm will be set to go off early, and the thunder will follow shortly after morning coffee.

Should be better able to choose proper jet for pilot now, then we may just head on down to the Dyno Shop!

i replaced intake manifold,reassembled carb, changed plug (took and act of god to do this), reassembled the plastics and battery components and pressed the ignition and fired right up. took for test run.

my cam gear allens had come loose, and the cam gear was buckin around on the flange along with the chain :eek2: :eek2:
musta forgot the loctite on those guys...good thing i caught it before a major crisis! i was pulling it apart to take the cam to my uncles to press the decomp. mech. off, and found this issue as soon as i took the valve cover off! crisis averted :D . on the down side though, it looks as if my gearshift spindle oil seal maybe leaking....project after project...i love it though. just wanna get it right so i can move on to suspension.

This will be the first time I get to ride it with the new Holeshot HD'S, the dyno tuned 450r carb, and the re-gearing.

Lets see,... 4-5 more hp,.. better throttle responce,... better traction,... and better bottom end torque,...

gee, I hope I can squeeze some fun out of it !

Set the preload on my rear shock, never did when i bought it but now the 450 shocks are thought I better. Going riding tomorrow to finishing tuning. Also changed the oil filter O ring because it started leaking.

Brand new top end. New valve cover, hotcams stage 1, piston, rings, lapped the valves, re-wired my eletronics and some other ish.

Well as I went to load her up and it wouldn’t start so I picked up a hammer that was close by and gave it a few whacks on the side of the engine case and it finally started. Then I took her for a nice ride in the back of my truck to the trails we ride on.
Then I put the truck in reverse and backed up real fast and slammed on the breaks and let it fly out the back and let it hit the ground. Again had to use the hammer to get it started. Then I ripped down the trail as fast as I could go and when I got to a hair pin turn I jumped off and let it fly off a 100 foot cliff and watched as it hit the ground and crumble up like a run over beer can. Then I went down the hill and poured a gallon of fuel on it and set it on fire just to make sure it was dead. Then I walked back to my truck and drove home.

That was funny. Actually if you said it was a Yamaha it would have been funnier-lol. Here's what happened to me one time. I got a 04 Banshee put a bunch of money it took it for a ride ( first time out with the mods). Rode it and started hearing a funny sound took it back home and got on my 02 400ex and there it sat my money pit 04 banshee . Learned a lesson on Yamaha's you can put alot money in them but you always go back to RED.

sunday i rode and was just doin a little hoppin over some dynamite holes, well my frame broke on the right side where the foot peg bolts, when i went over a hill top my foot went down and started to get pulled under the rear tire and bruised it up a little and pulled the hell outa my back, gotta do some welding now. definetly time for some nerfbars, probly wouldnt have happened if i had them.

thats actually a huge fear of mine, especially since i have wider pegs and my feet are always on the ends of them putting more stress on the frame.

shock towers. the whole subframe is a weak link. it will bend like wire.

sounds good it will be quite a while before i even get to get it running let alone tearing it down to put in a cam lol. I have to finish up the 450 carb install stuff first. I may end up putting on the stock carb for the time being to try out the cam. I am not sure how it will be. it may be a bit too much top for me since i really like my stage 1. It may even be a bit too much since i have 10:1. it runs so good with the stage 1, it runs with the 11:1 stage 2 and such right now. I still dont know if i want to mess with a good formula. So if it doesnt work out to my liking i will be selling it. I am sure it will be a great mid cam for it though. I just finished paying for the carbon fiber stuff too. :devil: cant wait to get this stuff on. :) steve

i meant to post this last night but forgot.. yesterday i cracked my stock swing arm skid.. 20 minutes later proceeded to rip it all the way off.. bent my brake rotor a little.. bent my handlebars.. and my 450r shocks are squeeking pretty bad..

Yesterday I did a little reforming on the front wheel I tagged pretty hard on my last ride.
I think it came out ok, considering that I did the repair with the tire still mounted to the rim, and the rim still mounted on the quad.

my frame broke on the right side where the up tube connects to the lower part of the frame where the peg is. So i plated up the bottom with some 3/16 on both sides just to make sure, welded up a skid plate out of 16 gauge for strength and protection and ran a 2 inch wide piece of the 3/16 frome the up tube down to the lower part of the frame,

its strong now!

Replaced my leaking header gaskets.
Changed the oil.
Filled the air in my rear leaking tire.

RODE for 15 minutes because all the daylight was gone.

changed the oil with some mobil 1 10w-30 atv race oil... broke my airbox tryin to bend my custom skid plate up some more so had to order new airbox... ordered a bar weight that fell off...stared at its muddy sexiness for a while... did some 360s on my icey road which got the cops called to my house....

Changed the stock headlight bulbs, to Xenon gas 35w, irridium coated bulbs. ($14.95 a pair from ebay.) Yea !

mounted a secondary, remote kill switch/tether to the rear of my son's "new" quad, and ordered a new lower counter sprocket to get it down to his speed.
also mounted a rear facing LED strobe, and will be mounting another one facing forward tommorow. (anti-collision/warning lights)

worked on a custom made set, of amplified speakers with FM/IPOD connections, to fit inside the tankbag for my wifes quad.

Got my quad all set up for Ice racing, got my shortened swing arm on, 250X rear shock, grooved and syped hoosiers, dual rib sand tires up front, put new powermadd hand guards on, new pro armor teather, adjusted my bars back, shortened my chain, changed my rear sprocket from a 38 to a 39, rebuilt my carb and rejetted up to a 160 main and dropped my clip down a notch on my needle to give ur more gas, put on a new KN filter n outerwear on, got all the summer mud off and gave the ole girl a wax job ahhaa !

Changes the position of the rear axle so you can put more body weight over the rear axle and get better grip, I race non studded. I can also lower the rear end by running a 250X rear shock with no linkage, frame straight to the swing arm

I used 2 pieces of hard plastic (2.5mm thick) cut out so that the fan pulls all it's air through the oil cooler, not through the gaps at the top and bottom.

The switch is wired through a relay so when te ign is off the fan can't be switched on accidentally. I used part of on old plastic chopping board underneath so the straps won't crush the fins on the cooler and also so the fan body won't distort.

made a custom brake light mount for my custom subframe. as you can see things are slightly dif now....

its on a hinge seat no longer comes off. but there was no way to mount the brake light. (yes mines a switched brake light)

the seat is bolted to the flip up part, and the stock latch and all that is removed.

i have yet to use it with all the plastics on but i think its f'n sweet.

the frame i got as a hybrid frame made to fit a yz426 motor too. iv had to fab mounts for everything but the motor. and even had to make one for that. its turned out very good thow and i have bean able to keep it all pro looking weld jobs.. lol im not good. just learning really.

the frame came with ac racing standard nerfs, custom oversized oil tank, a custom ex seat with a hand made, yamaha seat cover on it.(very nice) it also came with a airbox, k&n filter and one of those aluminum spacer plates for in the airbox. and a unopened swingarm pivot bolt bearing and seal kit. i got all that and a powdercoated orange frame with custom subframe for 250 shipped.

not too shabby eh. i could have got a custom bent yz426 exhaust for 150 from the guy and had less work to do...
but i dont want no yami motor in my honda. :huh plus i have 3 ex motors.... and now 2 good frames and one junk one... lol

took apart the clutch to put a new HD timing chain in, put the clutch back together, then took out the old piston, put on the new 426 piston, and put on my new resleved 426 cylinder......just waitin on the head to get back from the shop with the new valves, valve guilds, valve springs, valve seals......once that gets back all i gotta do is put the new stage 2 cam in, and put every thing back together

added a +3 Timing Key, makes great power now ...perfect match to the stage 1 can and 11:1 Piston....still think its running lean, but not overly concerned with it ...it will pull a wheelie without even touching the clutch! just blip the throttle and up ya go..then i crashed as i can around a corner to fast on a power slide..to much turn in the handle bar, glad i had a helmet on cause my head went smashing into the dirt!! little elbow skin gone but all is well.
