400, I dont know if you were refering to me. But, no the owner before me didn't sled pull. The tires that are set up on them now are set up for sled pulling. I am going to start sled pulling with the truck after i get money to replace the head studs.
My truck is fully paid for so when i get money i am going to get nittro mud grapplers probly 37's and some black rims probly. But, right now i got to keep the sled pulling tires on for a couple of months.
hey btw can you post a pic of your truck up. Saw you have a 06 6.0 on the other thread.

Yeah just check your states legal limit first, most people don't follow it bit for instance, legal in MA is 35%, i have 15% and the cops dont give me a hard time, but if i had 5% i would be getting alot of tickets. just a heads up!

yea i live in florida.
legal limits:
front: 35
rear: 15
windshield: none
however do to the fact that if you dont have dark tint your interior will fade within a year or two, cant see outside generally do to the bright sun, cops usually dont mess with you (edit: referring to down south) . only way i have ever heard of anyone getting a ticket was if they got pulled over for a moving violation and left the windows up when the cop came up.
i have had my current tint for over a year. been pulled over four times, (speeding to school, swerving around a turning car on a two solid line road, speeding, seatbelt) and only got one ticket. got a ticket for not having my seatbelt on, prob could have avoided the ticket (by wearing it lol) by letting the cop search my truck like he asked. wouldnt let him though. he said i was acting, and i quote, "****ing shady" lol, i had nothing to hide except a pair of knuckles, just didnt want him in my truck.
anyways heres my truck.

this is looking through the windshield. you cant really tell the tint is there from the inside. however you cannot see in through the windshield if all the windows are up. thats all i wanted. plus it helps with glares a lot.

the short answer is yes, lol.
it's a 4" kit with additional Warrior 1.5" lift shackles up front; has the 4" rear factory block instead of the 3" like the '00+, but it sat a little nose-low for my tastes, so i added the shackles. the front springs are intended for a diesel, so i also netted slightly more than the advertised 4"... so when its said and done it ends up sitting about like a 6" lifted diesel.

To properly level an 05-07 SD 250, you need the 350 blocks in the rear. There are two types of blocks too, they used different combos for the cab/bed configurations.
The coils started in 05+ on the front of the SD's, it allows for wider rims and wider tires without rubbing and they also have a tighter turning radius. The backspacing for the wheels is also different due to this, so a lot of times they'll have the same bolt pattern (obviously) but they cant be used on the different years.
The trucks came with so many different spring and block combinations that a 4" lift will probably not yield 4", it's crazy how much is different, and then you have plow packages (stiffer springs) but some of the 04 and previous trucks, you couldn't get the plow package with the crew cab and the diesel, as the axle wasn't rated for it...

correct me if im wrong, but the 99-03 250s (not sure about the 6.0s) have dana 50's up front. not sure if they changed that on the 250s or what. i do remember reading on powerstroke.org that it was the 50 up front rather than the 60 on the 250 SD.
also, got any pics of your rig?

I know the 05+ have a beefred up dana 60, before that I'm not sure what was on it, either the 50 or a weaker 60. That was one of the main points of them going to the beefed up 60, so you could get the plow package with the diesel option and the axle would actually be rated for it. I do know for a fact that the 05+ got the beefier 60's on the front.

Dont quote me, cause like I said there are so many different spring packages and combos, but yeah they should fit without issue and no rubbing, provided you're using the stock wheels or the ones with the correct backspacing. Worst case scenario you'd have to toss in a leveling kit, no big deal.
Do you have the 250 or 350? I'm pretty sure the plow package is just stiffer springs in front, not really any taller, but over time it will stay taller instead of sagging like some lesser springs. When the 08's came out a lot of guys were putting 35's on stock wheels and no lifts, but I dont want to be the guy to say yes it will fit, and then it doesn't .... haha

I want to say, 1999-2002/3 F250 had it, and 2003-2005 did not for some odd reason. Although, it was still in the 1999-2005 F350?

my guess is they just waited till 05 when they were bringing out the new design with the suspension to put the 60 in. the 50 really isn't bad not many people can rip it up on the truck so i think thats why they waited. i know some guys have been swapin over the axles and suspension from the 05-07 to 99--04 just for ride quality. i would love to do it but its not to cheap unless you get a killer deal on all the stuff

The 05+ trucks all have the same running gear (for 250's and 350's), like I said they primarily beefed it up for those wanting the crew cab (heavier trucks) with the diesel motor and the plow package. The older ones, a crew cab/long bed with a diesel technically cant support a plow over the front axle with all the weight. I'm sure tons of people do it and they'll hold fine, but the axle isn't rated for it.
My guess is the 03/04 had the D60, but not the beefed up one that is on the coil sprung super duties now.

what did ya hit?
A pole.
The roads were still wet friday morning from the rain we had thursday and I had to hit the ditch to avoid rear ending a lady in a prius.
Skidded down into the ditch and hit the pole around 10mph by the officers estimates. I was already slowing down, but I dont have ABS and once they lock im screwed.:chinese:

Very nice thumpin. Did you ever look into the Whipple roots style for that truck? I'm curious to get someone's first hand experience input with one of those on the 5.3. I might be doing a swap in my truck soon and there's whine on the menu....

Your radar detector needs to be moved up as high as possible. You've got to be missing stuff with it mounted there ;)
Check out www.radardetector.net very informative site.

So because one guy couldn't figure it out means no one should do it?
there are PLENTY of compounded trucks running fine every day.
In fact Wide Open Performance just built a triple turbo'd dodge, makes 700rwhp and is a daily tow rig.
I know people who blew up 400ex motors, so does that mean no one should ride 400ex's anymore?

Thats what i was thinking. Im new to the diesel game but I have been doing a lot of reading. There isnt that many downfalls to a compound set up, except well cost.

Usually when you're pumping 1300hp out of a truck that was made for low RPM use and designed to produce 175-250rwhp, then you usually have problems.
It's not a simple "slap some turbos on" deal. They have to be properly designed for your setup, and they need to be tuned. There is a lot that goes into it. Just because one hillbilly at some truck pulls cant make it work doesn't mean no one can.

Exactly. It isn't cheap. Usually when you require the use of compounds, you've already got a hefty setup going and everything needs to be beefed up! It's never ending.
I thought building race quads was expensive... oh man!

EFI live is a good tuner, but you have to have the software and the licensing to do it. i would go with a PPE hot +2
i would also consider gearing. idk what gearing you have in the truck but if you have stock 3.73 id ditch them and get 4.10's.

No tryin to advertise another board... but if you wanna talk to some guys that know thier **** on Dmax trucks... Check out www.dieselplace.com Alot of great people on there that will be more then happy to help get you to the right setup to run twins.
You do know youll need a new $7k tranny right lol...
Ruby Soho
02-25-2010, 05:26 PM
you really should do research on tuning. its different for every truck.. i know EFI is probably the best for a duramax, the PPE for the 6.0 is pretty good, the 7.3 i would ONLY go custom tuning (ts style, DP tuner etc..) generic tunes are a waste on a diesel.
mr._bowtie
02-25-2010, 05:34 PM
I wouldn't say they are a waste. If your talkin about runnin some like twins then ya you need custom work. On a stock or basic bolt on truck a "generic" tune still makes a huge differance
Ruby Soho
02-26-2010, 10:38 AM
it will make a difference yes, but they are generic chips.. a custom tune will be tuned for YOUR truck specifically, adjust shift patterns slightly, and is overall better.. plus your spending about the same amount so why not get it done right

Youll not hear an argument from me on that!
The advantages of say a Banks system is that there are built in saftey features that the custom tunes dont offer... EGT shutdowns, tranny slip shutdown, etc. Plus the banks has a super cool touch screen display that looks awesome lol. Also when your running the PDA with the banks you can do some limited custom tuning of your own. Change your shift point, alter egt cutoffs, n I dont remember what all else.
Alot of the tuners like also dont have to reprogram the ecm in the truck. And Im a big fan of not messin with that stuff when you dont have to.

jeesh guys i didnt mean to start a big argument.... I am an active dieselplace member already btw.... and as far as the twins and tranny and efi live...thats all gonna have to wait till next winter.... race season is coming fast...and bike builds are more important...
I wanted the twin turbo setup that still uses the stock turbo.... but before that i need a tranny....regear....lift pump (air dog etc)..and many other piddly things.... i was just pointing out its not really setup that well yet!!! ...all in time... again...not trying to start a fight here guys.... :)

Everything on that list looks good except for the ATS part. For the Allison without a doubt go with Suncoast. They just released the new Gmax kit that is suppose to be even better. To me it seems the best twin kits are MPI and then have Idaho Rob tune it!
Just remember, most only say 100hp over stock on the stock tranny.

YES, for the 6.0 definitely SCT tuner all the way, with CUSTOM tunes (tunes your trans also....VERY IMPORTANT) . That is the only way to go. You can easily plug in a tuner and put down 400hp and 700tq to the rear wheels, and thats only on a tune.

pics arent real good but....
my two rides are the sunfire and the explorer. sunfire is stock, explorer has 3" shackle raise in the back and 1.5" torsion crank in the front to get a decent height out of it. it sagged 1" in the back when i got it so i had the shackles made custom for me where i used to work so that i could gain the inch and get 2" lift extra to get it to have a forward lean and be level when i pull our trailer. The truck is my pride and joy but it is dads. I take care of it like it is my baby. The carpet in it has never been stepped on, always had at least 2 if not 3 mats on it at all times. all three are 97s. 119000 on the sunny, 88000 on the explorer, and 88000 on the truck. one day the truck will be my toy to add a lift to(9"- 6" susp and 3"body) and 38" mud grapplers or something with some nice bead locks that are red ringed or some incubus polterguists if they start making the black ones in 6 bolt otherwise some crushers. I wanna put some frame sliders front to back with the steps built into them also for some off trail stuff. right now the explorer does the offroading but not too much lol. steve

450hp with just a superchips? Maybe at the crank... your headgaskets and transmission will not like it either. You'd be lucky to have 400at the wheels, REAL lucky.

I would cut away as much of that rust as possible and weld new metal to it.
Looks nice, you need 37s tho and you might want to make sure 4wd doesnt pop out b/c the body might be hitting the shifter.

My buddy has a good bed for it, gonna go get it next week.
Id like to slap some 37s or something at least bigger than the 35s under it but just dont have the $$$ right now plus the tires on it still have good tread so they will do for now.
Already got my floor pans and rockers and im looking for other doors or just the fix the ones i have. The whole front clip is new, im also thinking about getting a cowl hood just cause it looks cool.
I like the lower profile cowl hoods, like maybe an inch or so. Anything more and it just doesnt look right on a truck imho.
bet you can score some 37in mudders on craigslist for cheap :)

Well what ARE you doing to it? I gave up trying to make the dang 6.0 fast. Just costs too much money. Just going to keep it tuned and ride it out for a while. It's saving me too much money on fuel to get rid of and get anything else (vegistroked).

I had a lot of plans.
2" suspension drop, (possibly a 2" chop top), drop a 460 in there from a friends 15 passenger he is trashing, Power steering/brakes. Digital gauges, and Paint it a deep blue.
However, I slowed down on it quite a bit about 2 years ago. Kinda decided I didn't like the body style quite enough to dump all the money and work into it.. seriously considering selling it. Unfortunately, somebody broke into it just recently and cut out the original gauges and stole the carb and battery.
^ Thats a shame, they probably knew what they were looking for if they just stole those parts.
Im a huge fan of ford trucks period. If it were me I wouldnt waste my time on the 460 as they are pigs no matter what you do. As much as it pains me to not keep it ford I would do a chevy 350 engine.

They were thoughtful enough to leave their old battery for me
Yea the main reason I was going with that 460 was cause he would have sold me the van for 300. So trans and engine for 300 would have been fairly cheap. I don't think it's still around anyways.
I'm quite torn. This truck has really grown on me but I LOVE the 68 c10.
That is a sexy c10 man.. tough call for sure.
I personally always wanted an old dodge little red express truck or a warlock. Course a cool lowered stepside C10 is nice too :D

I used to have one almost that exact color, except mine was a 3/4 ton and a long bed. But it was 2wd, so I lowered the front end, and it was always more of a hot-rod than truck.
It's still in the family, we're building an engine for it right now.

she's been all over the appalacian mountains and has also earned the nickname "tow-yota" because she never gets stuck and has had to pull everyone out on our four wheeling trips.
here's one just to show she gets dirty ;)
