Axle Locknut

I turned the skinny locknut on my 300ex counter clockwise, so the other one to loosen it to get to the clip ring I would go clockwise right????? I've done this several times, and have had no trouble. It does have medium strength lock-tite on it. I even tried heating it up with a torch, but I didn't want to get it to hot and mess up the axles chrome.

I got the big locknut loose by turning it closewise and all it does now is gets tight and pops and goes back loose. ??????

Counter clock wise..to loosen, clockwise to tighten.

both nuts are reverse threads. from the back of the quad it would be down. the skinny nut is a locknut and should have been against the other one.
