its a pretty good place,some trails are nice and easy, there are a few hills to test your skills too, and a small mx area, and a drag strip. (im sure its all a little messed up after the floods)
here are a few pics of the kids at one of the smooth little play areas (z250 and 400ex are still learning)

osawatomie is closed to public now, due to some arse holes riding on posted land and running from the law. (they didnt get away) but managed to screw up a great place to ride.

I talked to the owner for a while, he is cool with people riding but the city is comming down on him, and there seem to be alot of people who dont respect the property. (I have picked up beer bottles and trash off the trails more than once).

osawatomie is pretty much gone, thanks to the wyandotte county group that trashed the levey and the latest flood.

I tried to hit burlington but didnt even unload, its just flat flood area full of mosquitoes and mud flats.
I went by dragoon (by pomona lake) looks like its a possibility but you need to become a member, if there are any katv members that could comment on what its like that would be great.

I am still bummed out about Osawatomie. I live in Paola and have ridden down there a few times. Most of the riding I do is on private land that is owned by friends or family, but I don't even have much of that anymore.

Has anyone on here that lives in KS or MO ever thought about starting an ATV riding club? If there was an organized group of people the state might be more apt to help out with some riding land. Hey, it worked fro the KC Jeep Club (KSRocks park).

In the case of Osawatomie...I wonder if a group of people came forward to donate the time/materials to fence the land, then had monthly land cleanups, and monitored the property...would the city be more apt allow this?

mc_racer
09-18-2007, 04:17 PM
I be down for helping out.

KSrock park is really nice, but it is owned by an individual and leased to the people that run the park. That is one reason they don't allow ATVs, the owner thinks they tear up too much land by making their own trails. That sucks, because it is such a cool place.

It would be cool it we could work out a deal like that. I've have no problem paying to ride if it was nearby.

{rant on}
In fact, I wish more places charged to get in, it may keep the hooligans out. I get aggravated when I go to Perry or Deepwater and see people doing donuts in the parking lot, riding without helmets, drinking, etc. Those things just give more ammunition to the people that want to shut places down.

We as ATVers need to realize that we are all fighting the same battle for riding places and do a better job of following the rules of the few places left.
{rant off}

Rant on mc_racer because I agree with you 100%. A few idiots ruin it for everyone.

I would be interested in attempting to start up something like this, but I would need some help and guidance on where to begin. Maybe we need to get a list of Kansas (and Missouri) riders who would be interested and go from there. Anyone game?

My brother and I just got back into riding about 8 months ago and have been looking for somewhere closer and something new. So far weve been to Council Grove a few times, Perry, Randolph, John Redmond, Tuttle and up to Randolph a couple times. I think we are going to Milford on Friday afternoon if we can both get out of work. Is there anywhere else close?

Old thread, but just checking in. I live in Manhattan also along with several other riding buddies always looking for good groups of people to ride with and places to go. We go to the dunes a couple times a year. Alot of us are on old-school 250r's, and my 450r some but it is more of a track/dune quad than a trail bike. I just did a complete frame up build on a 250r specifically setup for the trails. my build thread here:

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=422549

I've been to skool creek a few times, I don't really know where to go out there so I've never been too pleased with it, and both times I've been by myself. I've also rode at Randolph and Spillway, didn't really like either of those places, Randolph was great for the RZR... They've really closed down the Spillway as of late, cut back alot of the trails. I usually go there to "test" and "tune" if I get a new part or something that's about it...

Any good tracks around? I know the one in Manhattan, but I hear you have to be a member and don't know much about it. Do they allow quads?

Thanks, T

I like what you did to the 250 r. We try to make the dunes as much as possible. We got a pretty big group of us that go to the dunes an the mountains as often as possible. Yeah that trac out by the landfill on hunters Island is Joel Norths propertie an leases it to 3 river motorcross club I guess. Pretty nice trac I guess they only let quads on it on sundays I heard. We got a pretty fun trac out my womego a buddy of mine built (Its kinda private for insureance sake) we just got back from the dunes but, are thinking about going back down for 5 days during stamped weekend. I know a lot of cats in manhattn my name is Kit, who all you ride with??

I've lived in Manhattan since 97, went to school etc.. etc.. I've been an engineer for Cat in Wamego since 01... I live in Miller Ranch area on the west side of town. I know alot of people in town too. I was a bartender/bouncer down at Chance and when Rado's was still Silverado's... My wife and I love it here. I just need to find some better places to ride. I actually pretty much let me quads sit in the garage until I go to the dunes. That's why I built the XC bike, I'm trying to be more "proactive" for the terrain around here. I grew up in Ellsworth, Ks and always rode in more open stuff, like sand pits, etc. I ride with Dan Hung, he just moved here from KC, in fact moves in, in June. Also a few buddies I grew up with at Ellsworth also have full time jobs here in town. Another engineer I work with and also grew up with is also into riding, ATC's mostly. We are building a long travel sand rail in his shop in Ogden.. pretty sweet setup..

I just got back from the dunes 3 weeks ago, been going down since I was 12. I love going down there, trying to talk my buddies into going back sometime the week before memorial weekend. Don't know if we'll swing it or not. I'm on temporary layoff that week, and would be a good time to go.

I heard of a track in Westmoreland?? ...and one south of Topeka in Lyndon, you know anything about those? I'm not really ready to be racing per'se but would like to run some laps and get my 450 dialed in.. LOL.. Dan's buddy I spoke about has a track in KC, I've yet to go there though.

I hope to meet up with you sometime Kit, I always enjoy meeting others that have similar passions and interests as I do!

You work at cat in womego?? You might know a good buddy of mine Dwight Carly?? Elsworth I ride with sum cats that grew up in that area building an rideing banchees, you know Elie?? Big in to raceing banchees. I work in manhattan I run my own concrete business. I have only been in business about a year now but, been doing concret for about 20 years now. Its a hard life but, enjoy the money. I have heard of the westy trac just 3 or 4 miles down the Onago road been wanting to go race a hair scamble there. My buddie races in witcita on jeep trac its fun. We sum times go to finger lake Mis. Its 10 miles north of Columbiea. Its has a lereta lin qualifieing trac that we like to ride. The one in lyndon use to be motocross might be quads now. I used to ride a 400 ex an now have move to a 500 scrammy. I know sounds kinda gay but, I have a lot of fun on it an have a few mods that make it pretty quick. I ride with a few 400 exs 450s an a few 700 we have a pretty good time I will keep in tought with you oin next dune trip or new trail ride.

I'm moving to Kansas City, MO next weekend. I ride a 2008 YFZ450. I am just curious if anyone can give me some places where I can go ride? The main type of riding I do is trail riding.
