View Full Version : Problem installing 300ex upper a-arm ball joints
With my 400 when I am installing or removing a tie rod end or ball joint I can put a pair of pliers on the other side of the hole the ball joint (or tie rod end) is going into because the ball joint has two squared sides right before it goes into the dust boot. I just realized that the 300ex's upper ball joint does not have this, it is completely rounded, so I have nothing to hold the ball joint in place while I tighten the nut. Thus the nut and ball joint spin together and the nut will not tighten. I would appreciate some thoughts on a way to tighten the nut down. Thanks!

I just went through the same thing with my new Houser a-arms.
This will work if you can get the nut on enough to see the top of the ball joint stem.
Take a 5" c clamp, and put it from the top of the ball joint bolt/stem/whatever you call it, to the ball joint. Tighten it down, and tighten the nut.
You want to get the c clamp as verticle as you can, or it will not hold.
Someone else in here gave me that trick, so if it works for you like it did for me, I can't take any credit.
