Project Quads - Custom Built ATV Racing Machines

Moto Pro Training Honda Honda Foreman 500

2013 Honda Foreman 500 Utility ATV Project Build
::Continued::

We really wanted some added protection to the front and rear of the quad by adding beefier bumpers and we were getting really close to tapping out our budget. There are very few companies that build bumpers for this model and the ones that are available use the racks as part of the mounting mechanism.  We did a little research to see if we could get some custom built ones but time restraints, cost of the build, and powder coating basically put us way over our budget. We opted to purchase bolt on bumpers from a company in Canada.

We rounded up a heavy duty front bumper that integrates with the rack for increased protection

These are heavy-duty bumpers but as stated previously they utilize the current rack system for mounting so our training machine is rolling with the racks on.  The one benefit to having the racks on is that it allows for easier gripping spots when and if the machine gets stuck or has to be moved around.

The rear bumper also integrates nicely into the rack and offers plenty of places to grab if the machine does get stuck or has to be moved

With the quad complete it was time for our first test ride.  The first thing noticed is how comfortable and secure the riding position is due to the Flexx bars and the Rox Speed FX risers and foot pegs.  The machine steers easier, quicker, and better with this simple modification.  The larger and wider foot pegs help with maneuvering the larger machine through the trails and provide lots of leverage.  Throttle response is greatly enhanced from the HMF optimizer and silencer and the engine feels alive and sounds like it wants to be pushed harder.  The broader footprint provided by the Douglas Wheel and Tire combo allows the Foreman to track and handle better than one can imagine.  This modification combined with the Elka Stage 5 shocks is the key to making this rig a complete package.  Attacking rough terrain seemed effortless and the big utility seemed to float through some of the roughest conditions.  The new improved and larger PowerMadd Sentinel hand guards provided superior protection especially when we entered tighter more technical trails with lots of vegetation.  Besides the added protection they just look very cool!

After several hours of riding we took the quad back in for once over inspection and oil change. Everything that was mounted stayed secure and true to fit.  The Ricochet skid plates are tough and provide excellent protection, this is another product that everyone should have installed on their machine.

We would like to thank all the companies that made this build possible including DWT, HMF, ROX Speed, Fasst Co, Elka Suspension, Impact Solutions ATV, and Uni

The end result is an extremely fun, surprisingly powerful, and great handling utility ATV. Our next step is to race this beast and to let some of our GNCC Pros take it out for a pounding!  Stay tuned!
