San Jacinto, CA (1/20/2012) -
Last week, I attended the 2012 Polaris RZR XP
4 900 SxS press launch in Parker, AZ where I had
the opportunity to test drive the new four seat
model for the first time, and after spending an
entire day out in the Arizona desert putting the
RZR XP 4 900 to the test for our initial drive
review, we had the opportunity to bring the RZR
XP 4 900 home with us for an extended review to
see how well it holds up and performs over the
next several months.
As luck would have it, the annual SOBOBA GP
in San Jacinto, CA was the following weekend,
and after winning the event in 2011 in a stock
Polaris RZR 4 800 SxS, I decided it would be
the prefect testing grounds for the new high
performance RZR XP 4 900 Limited Edition model
with EPS.

Beau
Baron amazed everyone by winning the SOBOBA
GP last year in a bone stock 2011 Polaris
RZR 4 800 Robby Gordon Edition SxS! |
In addition to the 2 hour long endurance races
at the SOBOBA GP, Saturday night was the UTV
/ SxS jump contest, so I decided to enter the
Polaris RZR XP 4 900 into the competition even
though I knew there was little chance of winning
the competition with $1,000 up for grabs for
the farthest jump, but with a huge crowd of
spectators, I wanted the crowd to see the capabilities
of the new RZR XP 4 900 LE, and with a very
long and gradual downside landing, I knew that
there was very little chance of anything going
wrong.

Walker Evans shocks both front & rear
with 13.5" travel up front &
14" of travel in the rear |
It was finally my turn, I hit the lip of the
jump going about 70mph and launched the XP 4
900 105ft breaking last year’s world record
SxS jump of 98ft., but who would have thought
that any 4-seater could do even that? I was
impressed with how level the car flew off the
jump and how smoothly the car landed without
bottoming out the suspension. The record was
quickly outdone by a Doug Mittag with a 164ft
long jump in his custom race SxS. R.J. Anderson
claimed the second spot with 151ft in a two-seater
RZR XP 900, and the RZR XP 4 900’s 105ft
jump held on for a 4th place finish.

Beau
Baron took his first win of the 2012 ATV
racng season at the SOBOBA GP aboard his
Maxxis / H&M Motorsports Honda TRX450R
ATV |
The following day, Sunday, I was signed up
for both the ATV and SxS race, and the quad
race started early in the morning, which gave
me some extra time out on the track to memorize
the layout. Conditions were pretty dry and there
was a lot of silt making it extremely dusty
in sections, but half way through the race it
began to rain and this fortunately settled a
lot of the dust giving me a clear track to take
home first place on my H&M Motorsports /
Maxxis Honda 450R and the purse to go along
with it.
