The ITP TerraCross R/T tires worked great and were very
predictable. They offered great traction in the deep
mud and on the hard packed slick sections. They also
were predictable sliders when needed. I ran them at
6 psi and finished without any flat tires.

The
Outlander 500 comes equipped with Ohtsu H track
tires mounted on steel wheels(above left) ,
which would be fine for general trail riding,
but for aggressive riding or racing, the ITP
TerraCross RT Tires mounted on the SS 106 Aluminum
wheels (above right) are the ticket with added
puncture resistance and more aggressive tread
pattern |
By the 3rd lap of the 5 lap race I started getting
more comfortable with the Outlander and was having
a blast. I basically stayed in 3rd position for the
whole race but I was not riding slow by any means.
There are some very fast racers in this class! With
more seat time, I believe I could fare better in the
class and overall. I actually had more fun racing
this quad than any other quad in years!

Jeff
Stoess finished an impressive 3rd Place in the
4x4 Lites Class on a bone stock CanAm Outlander
besides ITP tires & wheels, which proves
anyone can go out and race a CanAm Outlander
and be competitive within any extensive mods |
I felt like I could go 2 more laps when I saw the
checkered flag. The quad is very forgiving to go fast
on, but you have to give it respect because it is
a big, heavy, and powerful quad and can be a handful
for novice riders.
I would like to race this quad again with a few mods
just to see if it can be made even better. I understand
that the Renegade dual a-arms and front shocks can
be bolted straight on to the Outlanders. Another thing
I would like to try is a steering damper.
A big thanks goes out to ATVriders.com, Warnert
Racing, ITP, Harlen Foley, Kenny (Pappy) Hill, Rick
Cecco and Mike Husband for making this happen.
