Anza, California - Baldwin Racing’s
Josh Upperman claimed the round seven win of the
DWT World ATV Motocross series, while Can-Am Motoworks’s
Chad Wienen hung on to the pro points lead despite
a tough weekend for the team and Yamaha/Mushin Racing’s
Thomas Brown made the podium as well.
Rain, mud, and standing water made things rough
for racers at the normally dry and dusty Cahuilla
Creek MX Park. “It was really all about
who got the best start on Saturday because once
you were behind someone it was really tough to
pass,” said number 44 Chad Wienen.
Chad Wienen and his crew had a really tough time
of things over the weekend as the Can-Am Motoworks
rig caught fire Friday afternoon in Temecula,
CA on its way to the track. Flames engulfed the
trailer section of the rig and everything inside
was a total loss, including Wienen’s DS450
race quad. “The crew all puts so much work
into what they do and to have this happen was
really heartbreaking for everyone,” said
Wienen.

The
DWT / Motoworks / Can-Am ATV Race Team Rig
caught fire on the way to the track on I-15,
which burned up nearly everything inside
including Chad Wienen's freshly built DS450,
so the crew srambled Friday night to build
a new quad for Wienen for Saturday Morning's
race

The Can-Am Motoworks team was not about to give
up however, as the DWT World ATV MX Championship
was on the line. The crew rushed to their Lake
Elsinore shop and worked vigorously until 3am
to get a Can-Am set up for Wienen, who was still
holding the Pro ATV Points lead in the series.

Baldwin's
Josh Upperman didn't let the mud slow him
down as he went on to claim the Moto One
Win |
Despite the wet conditions and on and off rain throughout
the morning, Yamaha’s Thomas Brown barely
edged out Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh Upperman
for the Holeshot, but his lead was short lived with
Upperman outrunning Brown to the second turn to
claim the lead where he stayed for the entire moto.
Thomas Brown and Chad Wienen were right behind Upperman
in single file, but the muddy conditions caused
vision problems and made the track mostly single
lined and did not give them an opportunity to challenge.
Upperman would go on to claim the moto one win.
