WORCS Racing - Round
1 - Pro ATV Race Report
::Continued::
EXIT Shock’s Robbie Mitchell’s second
place didn’t come easy for the Utah racer,
since he just recovered from surgery on both arms
that required nerves to be removed that caused his hands
to go numb while racing. Mitchell was medically
released to begin training just two weeks ago,
which didn’t give him much time to prepare
for the season opener, but it wasn’t obvious
from his performance.

Shock's #5 Robbie Mitchell charges up the
hill to the pro pits with Dax Snow along
the sidelines cheering for his former Kawasaki
team racer |
“I’ve only had about two hours of
riding since October and was really happy to have
the mud as an equalizer today,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell matched his career best finish
at the 2013 WORCS Opener with a 2nd place
finish
|
Mitchell got off the gate in third position with
the help of his LMR engine. He then quickly worked
his way to the front of the pack in lap one. Mitchell
rode smart, and even though he wasn’t able
to take the win, he still ran an incredible race
for the privateer racer that was still running the
same ATV he finished out 2012 season
“It is just awesome to get second place.
We’re running out of a little trailer and
a pickup truck and it makes me feel good to be
able to run up front against these big teams.
I am still running last years bike, so it is great
to get second, “regarded Mitchell.
Defending champion, Beau Baron, earned himself
the final podium position. Baron had an excellent
start on his H&M Motorsports / Maxxis Tire’s
backed Honda. Baron fell back from the leaders
in the first few turns when trying to pull tear
offs from his goggles.

Block's #1 Beau Baron was feeling the pressure
early on in the race with Yamaha's #417
Josh Row in chase, but Baron would put down
the hammer late in the race as he pulled
away and recorded the fastest lap-time of
the race in lap fourteen with a time of
6:29.113, which allowed Baron to easily
secure the final podium spot |
Baron moved his way back up to third position
as the race wore on and had hoped a unique pit
strategy would boost his position. “I waited
until late to pit and because of the mud it didn’t
pan out like I had hoped. My gloves were so wet
and nasty that I could barely turn my twist throttle,”
said Baron.
Once Baron got new gloves, he was off and rolling,
and Baron ran the fastest lap times of the day
in the final laps of the race. Amazingly, Baron
recorded the fastest laptime of Pro Main in lap
fourteen with a time of 6:29.113, which allowed
Baron to pull away from the rest of the field
to secure the third and final spot on the podium.
