Johnson & Cody Mitchell Round Out Pro-Am
Podium
Payette, Idaho - As the sun
came up in Payette, Idaho Sunday morning, racers
thought they were going to be in for a cloudy
overcast day of racing. As the day progressed,
the sun started peeking through for the early
races. When it came time for the Pro/ Pro-Am staging
the sun was ablaze and it was getting warm. The
Pro line was off and the Pro-Am ATV racers were
staging. The motors were revving and the gate
dropped.

Joshua
Pursell #163 edged out Pro-Am Rookie Grant
Mitchell #32 to take the Holeshot |
This track offered one of the longest starts
with the race continuing up the steep two hundred
fifty foot plus hill climb and around the first
turn. The holeshot was close between first time
Pro-Am rider, fifteen year old Grant Mitchell
# 32 who was edged out by Joshua Pursell #163
of Moses Lake, Washington.

Grant
Mitchell made his Pro-Am Debut at Clay Peaks
MX. Mitchell would finish ninth for the
day aboard his Kawasaki KFX450 ATV |
The quads roared around the first turn and the
Pro-Am ATV racers were off on their first lap.
This lap would be the first time the entire field
of Pro-Am’s would see the whole course.
They did not get the added benefit of a parade
lap or sight lap to see the three technical pro
sections and the W.O.R.C.S. Cross section the
track was offering.
D.J. Noerr # 842 would take the early lead and
would pull away from the field putting some time
and distance between him and H & M’s
Chase Thomas # 622. “I was running second
behind Noerr until I had a small crash in a turn
putting me back to fifth place, where I would
end up finishing the race. A special thanks goes
to H & M Motorsports for all the help during
the weekend,” Stated Thomas.
Garrin Fuller # 45 from El Cajon, California
took over the lead on lap five and would hold
the position until the finish. Keith Johnson #
1P had a mid pack start, and worked his way toward
the front. “On the second lap I got hung
up in a chain link fence. I then had to fight
back through the dust, which was very difficult,
but the track was amazing. My LMR built motor,
Elka shocks, and Maxxis tires were a perfect match
for this tight, technical and wide open track,”
commented Johnson after taking the checkered flag
in second place.
