WORCS Racing - Round
5 - Clay Peaks - Amateur ATV Race Report
::CONTINUED::
After this round the points would shake out to
Webster # 39 in the lead over Mitchell # 83 by
eight points. Johnson # 1P is six points out of
second place sitting in third, Robles # 58 is
four points behind Johnson in fourth place, and
Fuller # 45 rounds out the top five, nine points
behind fourth place after missing two rounds due
to an injury.
Leading up to the Pro-Am in the qualifying races
of Production A, D.J. Noerr # 842 on his Curtis
Sparks powered Honda would pull the holeshot over
Keith Johnson #1P on his Lindsey Machine Racing
Honda. They continued to be nose to tail going
out into the off-road section. When the leaders
came back into sight, Johnson #1P would overtake
Noerr # 842 to claim the lead. Noerr # 842 would
slide back to third and take the checkered flag
in that position. Garrin Fuller # 45 would charge
toward the front. His hard charge would be rewarded
with a second place finish behind leader Keith
Johnson #1P.

Julie
Russell took her fourth win of the season
at Clay Peaks MX. Russell currently holds
the number one position in the Women A ATV
Class Points |
Women’s A would treat Julie Russell # 1W
very well yet again this season. She would get
the jump off the line and come around the first
turn grabbing the holeshot over the four woman
field. She came through the scoring shoot, tucking
another win under her belt mid way through the
season with a six minute lead over the next finisher
Lynn Prosser # 53 from Flagstaff, Arizona. Russell
added, “The track was really dusty but it
was super sandy, full of whoops, and fast, fifth
gear pinned wide open! I really loved the entire
track. I would like to thank all of my sponsors.”
Right after Pro Practice, Open A was staged and
ready to race! As the field rounded the first
turn Jeremy Meador # 1022 from Star, Idaho would
take the holeshot over Cody Mitchell # 83. Right
on their rear bumper was Chase Thomas # 622, John
Rikerd # 1V, Cole Fite # 177, and Clint Van Vliet
#1021 a day rider from Ontario, Oregon. The race
would see the Open A regulars running in the front
of the class.
Chase Thomas # 622 was the exception; he broke
his transmission during Production A with a half
a lap to go. He would easily qualify finishing
in second place behind Baja racer Javier Robles
# 58. He too would have his share of problems
to start the weekend. The carrier bearings went
out so he didn’t make it to the Production
A line. He lined up for Open A and came across
the finish line in first place with Thomas # 622
second, Mitchell # 83 third, Rikerd #1V fourth
and Guilmette # 25 rounding out the top five.
Now that we have reached the halfway point in
the season the next four races will show who will
be in contention for the championship. We will
see everyone in Washougal, Washington August 19-21
for a combined Bike/ATV weekend.
