Sverepec, Slovakia - With the second editions of the Quadcross
of European Nations, the interest for the event
was even bigger than last year. With new countries
at the starting gate, it shows that ATV racing keeps
on growing across the Atlantic. The event
has a different set of rules and practices than
the normal races in the European Championship.
For starters, it’s a team event. Every country
delegates three riders to the event. Furthermore,
the qualification is a race instead of putting
a single fast lap. Since there are three riders
for each country, spectators got 3 qualification
races of 20 minutes and 2 laps on Saturday.

Each
of the teams to participate in the European
Quad of Nations race would bring in 3 races
to compete. The ACU British Quadcross team
from England was comprised of #11 Karl Bunce,
#10 John Mithcell, & #12 Mark Watson.
The team would finish in a respectable 4th
place overall after a fight to the finish! |
On Sunday, each group of riders competes with
each other in separate races. At the end of the
day the worst result of each country is deleted,
which gives an overall standing. The country with
the lowest number can call itself the winner of
the 2nd Quadcross of European Nations. The emphasis
lies on consistency and having no DNF’s.

Germany's Stefen Schreiber would battle
hard during his races as he competed with
fellow countrymen Timo Weidenbrucher &
Sina Willmann |
In the qualifying race of group A, the Holeshot was for Nicola Montalbini (Honda-Italy).
He was closely followed by Stefan Schreiber (KTM-Germany).
Both riders took from the start a small gap with
the rest of the pack, which was lead by Davy Brems
(W-Tec-Belgium). A few laps into the race, Stefan
Schreiber took the lead from Montalbini and tried
to build out a lead. Matthieu Ternynck (Laeger-France)
was making his way through traffic after a bad start
and ended up in the top 5.
John Mitchell (Laeger-Great Britain) entered
the top three and secured his position after 6
laps. Half way the race, Montalbini overtook Schreiber
and stayed on the number one position till the
checkered flag ended the first race.
