2nd Annual Quadcross
of European Nations ATV Race Report
::Continued::
In group B, it was Davy De Cuyper whom crossed
the big table top first. He lead the pack before
Jindrich Petlach (KTM-Czech Republic) and Carl
Bunce (Suzuki-Great-Britain) for several laps.
Bunce could claim second place, but rapidly felt
the heat from Adrian Mangieu (Ligier-France).
The Frenchmen knew a terrible start, but made
his way quickly through the traffic. Half way
through the race, he battled successfully for
the first place and stayed there. Carl Bunce was
also able to move up a position and got second
place. De Cuyper dropped to third and stayed there.
Jonathan Gil (Suzuki-Portugal), also knew a bad
start. Nevertheless, Jonathan Gil could work his
way to a fourth position. The top 5 was completed
by Ingo Ten Vregelaar (Yamaha-Netherlands). The
Dutchmen started great and was able to keep a
top 5 spot.
|
Jan Vlaeymans who is a regular in the top
of the packs was sitting in the top 5 position
for the final race of Saturday |
In the final race of Saturday, Mark Watson (KTM-Great
Britain) was the first to enter the corner. Not
much later, Julien Marin (Yamaha-France) took over
with next to Watson, Gomes (Suzuki-Portugal), Nielsen
(Yamaha-Denmark) and Vlaeymans (W-Tec-Belgium) on
his tail. Mark Watson was able to take the lead
from Marin after a few laps into the race. Jan Vlaeymans
and Joe Maessen worked their way up. Vlaeymans passed
Julien Marin for second place, while Joe Maessen
could get hold of fourth place. Tiago Gomes completed
the top 5 after a super start.
With the results counted, it was Great-Britain
with the best overall result on Saturday. Therefore
Watson, Mitchell and Bunce got first pick at the
starting gate of Sunday’s race. Second place
came to France and third was Belgium. The top
was completed by Italy and the Netherlands. The
standing came about after the Jury counted up
the results per country and per race. Furthermore,
the worst result of each country was canceled.

Italy's Nicola Montalbini has been running
strong all season during the Quadcross season
& the weather at Slovakia couldn't slow
him down as he helped to propel his team
to the overall win! |
On Sunday, rain poured with gallons out of the
sky. The clay underground made it very difficult
to get up the steep hills. Therefore, speed was
altered in inerrancy. A good start would become
vital for a top result. The first race was between
group A and B. Montalbini was again the first
in the corner, followed by Mike Van Grinsven (W-tec-Netherlands),
Matthieu Ternynck, Adrian Mangieu and Davy De
Cuyper. Adrian Mangieu got stuck in the back part
of the track and lost several places. Nevertheless,
his team mate Matthieu Ternynck claimed second
and secured it the entire race. Montalbini lead
Italy to their first win of the day. His team
mate Emanuelle Giovanelli ended up in third place.
Putting Italy on an early lead. Davy Brems (W-Tec-Belgium)
took eight after a bad start, while Davy De Cuyper
had fourth for Belgium. Dutchmen Mike van Grinsven
and Ingo Ten Vregelaar rode consistent and took
fifth and seventh. Stefan Schreiber climbed back
into the top 10 and took sixth.
After the first moto, the jury called an extra
meeting to reassess the situation. The condition
of the track was so altered, that several riders
couldn’t get up the steep hills. Therefore,
the track was shortened on several places and
the race was now 20 minutes + 2 instead of 30
minutes + 2.
