Jauer, Germany - After two successful
European Championships of Quadcross. The European
Motorcycle Union (UEM)agreed to host the first ever
European Quadcross of Nations. With 15 countries
entering the competition, the starting grid was
more than full. The 45 riders, each country was
represented by three riders, got divided up into
three groups. Each group had to race each other
in a 30minute and 2 laps session.
The event was hosted at the magnificent track
of M.C. Jauer (Germany), located near the legendary
city of Dresden. The city is worldwide known from
the bombing of the British RAF on the historical
city center, during WWII. And today, the Brits
were again the main contenders.

With the weather on our side throughout the entire
weekend, all ingredients were present for an unforgettable
European Nations Cup. On Saturday the teams had
a free practice of 45 minutes to set their quads..
In the afternoon each driver had to ride a qualifying
race of 20 minutes plus 2 laps. The combined result
of the three drivers would determine the starting
grid on Sunday.
Each country had a driver in every qualifying
race. Most teams had put their best driver in
Group A. Containing several multi-national champions,
the first qualifying race would a thriller. The
Italian driver Montalbini had a great start and
could make a gap with the rest of the drivers.

Each
of the 15 National Teams represented at
the Quadcross of European Nations had 3
ATV racers per team to run a 3 Moto format
with 30 ATVs racing at once in each moto,
so each racer would run in 2 of the 3 motos |
In the pack Romain Couprie (Yamaha/France), Paul
Winrow (Honda/Great Britain), Joe Maessen (Yamaha/Netherlands),
Jan Vlaeymans (W-Tec/Belgium) and home rider Stefan
Schreiber (KTM/Germany) were battling it out.
Couprie was able to go relatively easily through
the pack. Half way the session, Montalbini got
overtaken by Couprie.
Jan Vlaeymans was able to do the same with Paul
Winrow, but Winrow stayed close to Vlaeymans.
In the last lap Winrow was able to make a move
on Vlaeymans which resulted in the third place.
Joe Maessen suffered from a shoulder injury. During
the first laps, a rock hit his shoulder. The 2009
German Champion had trouble steering his bike.
