1st Annual Quadcross
of European Nations ATV Race Report
::Continued::
The second race was less than 2 hours after the
first one. Giving the riders of Group B not much
time to recuperate. In this session Group B would
race Group C. Paul Holmes’ KTM gave him
a good start and he could dominate the entire
heat. Jonathan Gil road again an excellent race,
claiming the second place for Portugal. Ensuring
them of an outlook on a podium place. Davy DeCuyper
claimed third place, holding of Jason MacBeth
and Matthieu Ternynck (Yamaha/France).
Heading towards the last and determining heat
everything was still possible. The favorites,
Great-Britain, had a few points advantage on France.
For third place it was still a close call between
Portugal, Holland and Belgium. With everything
still possible, it all ended up to the last heat.
With already each a DNF, France and Great-Britain
weren’t allowed to make any mistakes.
All top riders had an excellent start, so it
promised to be an exciting race. Romain Couprie
was in top shape, because he was able to it all
over again. The young French Yamaha driver took
an early lead. Only Joe Maessen of Holland was
able to follow a few laps. At the end Couprie
had a comfortable 10 second lead on the Netherlander.
Jan Vlaeymans got hold of third place. The three
riders had the same lap times in the second half
of the race. So, none of them could threaten each
other.
For Great-Britain disaster struck after an unexpected
engine problem for Jason MacBeth. With this second
DNF, Great Britain dropped to fourth place. A
few points before Belgium that also had its second
DNF that weekend when DeCuyper fell out. Adrian
Mangieu (Ligier/France) got hold of fourth place
and thereby mathematically France would be the
winner of the first ever European Nations Cup
for Quadcross.

The two top 10 places for Portugal were more
than enough for second place in the overall. The
first ever podium place for the country on a Nations
Cup. Holland ended on the third place after a
time penalty of one minute for Latvia. Thereby
Joris Kersten of the Netherlands gained one place
in the second heat. This was enough for a one
point gap on the disappointed Great-Britain.
With the first Cup wrapped up, it promises to
be great initiative of the UEM. The location of
next year will be decided in November.
