Yamaha's Chad Wienen Wins SSQSA ATV
Motocross Season Finale
Walsh's Cody Gibson
Wins Top Gun ATV Championship
Madison,
FL (1/29/2012)
– The Sunshine State Quad Series Association
(SSQSA) held its fourth and final ATV motocross
round of the season, where newly Yamaha mounted
Chad Wienen took the win, but it was Walsh Race
Craft’s Cody Gibson who won the Top Gun (aka
pro class) Championship.
The SSQSA series is a four-round series in Florida
that is popular with pro ATV racers who are looking
to get in some racing time before the start of
AMA Pro ATV Motocross Championship. This year,
Cody Gibson was busy dialing in his Walsh CRF
450 Hybrid that he will be racing in the Pro-am
Unlimited class at the Nationals. Wienen Motorsport's
Chad Wienen, who looks to have fully recovered
from his crash last July, came out to play and
get in some seat time on his new Yamaha YFZ450R.
Mark Madl, the reigning AMA ATV Motocross Pro-am
Production champion, was on hand, as was current
Pro-am Unlimited champ, Jeffrey Rastrelli, who
joined Wienen and Gibson in the Top Gun class.

Racecraft's #40 Cody Gibson is back to racing

Yamaha / TBrown Racing’s Thomas Brown was
planning to attend the final SSQSA round as well,
but Brown was injured last week during practice
when he flat landed a jump and snapped a tendon
in his ankle. Brown underwent surgery right away
and is back at home in Texas recovering. Brown’s
injury will not keep him from competing as he
plans to return to training in early March before
the start of the Nationals.
The race structure for the SSQSA series Top Gun
(Pro Class) is a little different that most ATV
motocross event with two, three-lap heat races,
which determine the gate positions for the eight
lap main event. Lap times for the Top Gun class
were ranging just over a minute and a half at
the Florida MotoPlex sand track, which was well
groomed for the event.
