Middleboro, MA - Sandy tracks were the topic over the last two
weeks as the New England ATV Motocross Championship
Series visited two famous tracks, back to back.
For round four we went to the famous sands of
Southwick, and now for round five, we were racing
in the sands of Capeway Rovers in Carver, Massachusetts.
The track is nearly 80 years old and proved it
is one of the tougher, and more exciting ones
on our circuit. One rider who prevailed to overcome
the steep graded jumps, tight turns, and large
braking bumps was Canada’s Jasmin Plante
as he swept both the Pro and the Pro-Am Podiums.

The
forecasted rainy weather went elsewhere
& the fans, racers, & promoters
were all happy the water stayed in the
sky

The common theme since round four at Southwick
as well, has been the weather. Heavy rains and
winds soaked us to the bone last round and it
was forecasted to happen yet again for Capeway.
As the rains pounded the tops of campers, trailers,
and tents Saturday night, we all thought for
sure we’d awake to a monsoon on the track,
but as things turned out, the weather had set
us up with a perfectly tacky track, ready for
racing action! The track was littered with fans
as well which enticed the racers to go that
extra mile as they can hear their cheers from
the stands lining the straights.
The Pro ATV class got off the line without
a hitch in moto one which saw Can-Am/BCS Performance’s
Cody Miller nearily miss the holeshot and battle
with Southside/Polaris’ Bobby Ross, who
was the holeshot winner, heading into the first
turn. Miller stuck the pass for the lead early
on and begins checking out on the rest of the
Pro pack.

Southside
Polaris' Bobby Ross scored the first Pro
Moto holeshot just in front of #22 Cody
Miller, #45 Rich Stambach, #1 Joe Haavisto,
& #270 Jason Connell |
Ross sits in second place in head of Honda
mounted Jason Connell, Can-Am/Motoworks’
Joe Haavisto and Golden West Cycles’ Rich
Stambach.
By the end of lap one, DRT/KTM’s Michael
Pilotte had moved into fifth place and was beginning
to apply the pressure on Joe Haavisto for fourth
position. Pilotte moved into fourth place by
lap three and a big break came for Haavisto
and Pilotte as Jason Connell’s stator
coil on his Honda quit, mid-turn on lap three,
which allowed the rest of the pack to jockey
for new positions.

Cody
Miller lead the Pro Moto One from start
to finish & by the time the checkered
flag flew 8 laps later, the BCS Performance
Can-Am racer had built up a 20+ second
lead on the competition |
Meanwhile, Cody Miller was up front running away
from the pack and eventually ending the Pro Moto
one with over a 20-second lead on the rest of
the competition. Even though the track was getting
quite rough and rutted out during the intense
8-lapper, Miller hung on and rode very smoothly
over the sandy terrain.
“My BCS Performance Can-Am ATV was running
great in the sticky sand, and the suspension
was working well over the rough stuff too, I
just rode smooth and smart, it really felt effortless
once I was out front, ” said Miller after
his domination of the first Pro Moto.
