Sioux Falls, SD - Round number six of the 2010 Extreme Dirt Track
Series was an exciting one as Michael Coburn returned
to the top of the podium in both the Pro and Pro
Lites classes, while Casey McKibben would hold off
Brad Riley to claim victory in the Pro-am class.

On
Thursday, a racer meet & greet was held
in Sioux Falls with many racers lining up
their quads along the street & the local
news stations came out to interview the
top racers including Frank Batista
|
This was the first time for the series to travel
to Michael Coburn’s home track where he
and his family and friends played a big role in
setting up the weekend’s events and preparing
the track. The track was fast and technical with
good passing opportunities, which helped Michael
Coburn race his way to the top of the podium.
|
The Sioux
Valley Cycle Club track was expanded over
the year to stretch the laptimes out to
around the 36 second mark with an option
lane to provide some passing opportunities

Michael Coburn claim the Pro Win in front
of his hometown crowd |
In the Pro Class, Coburn was in second off the
line, right behind Brad Riley. Coburn waited patiently
and soon got his opportunity to take over the
lead when Riley went wide in one of the turns,
which gave Coburn the advantage he needed to get
past Riley and take over the lead. Once out front,
Coburn began to pull away from the rest of the
pack and took the Pro class win, giving him a
15 point lead with only one round left in the
series.
Brad Riley was back in action after a nasty crash
at the previous round left him uncertain if he
would be able to race. Although Riley was recovering
from his injuries, he ran into a bit of back luck
once again just before the race. “I got
bit by a spider and ended up having to go to the
hospital because of it,” he stated. Riley’s
bite was apparently the work of a Brown Recluse
spider, which required immediate medical attention
and left him with a painful and swollen arm.

Despite his rough time, Riley still grabbed the
Pro class holeshot and held his lead for several
laps before dropping back to a second place finish.

Frank Batista was able to hold off #41 Jay
Rehagen to secure the final spot on the
Podium with #53 Kirby Cooke rounding out
the Top 5 |
Frank Batista was looking consistent as he came
off the line in third in the Pro class. Batista
maintained his number three position all the way
to the checkered flag to claim the third spot
on the podium. “This was a really fun track
and I had a great time out here this weekend.
The track was set up with good passing and was
fast but still technical. They did a really good
job” said Batista.
Jay Rehagen hung on to take fourth in the Pro
class, while Kirby Cooke put in a strong effort
to round out the top five. Daryl Rath decided
to join in the fun for this round and claimed
a solid sixth place finish in the Pro class, while
Chuckie Creech came back from an earlier crash
to claim seventh. Brian Ace finished out his day
in eighth place, with Trent Powell close behind
in ninth, while Kristopher Bures rounded out the
top ten in the Pro class.
