Cody Taylor Takes UTV
Pro Challenge Win
::Continued::
Hess had to work for his podium slot. After a
tire change prior to the main, Hess had trouble
with traction at the start and had to pick his
way through the field to earn the last slot on
the podium.

Motorsports' Shawn Hess rounded out the
podium at the ATV Pro challenge in Memory
of Caleb Moore |
“We threw on some smaller tires to try to get
an advantage and that didn’t work; the bigger
tires were better,” said Hess. “We were out-pulled
on the start and ran fifth. It was kind of crazy,
with everyone bunched together. I had to get in
the groove, make some passes, and try to make
each move count. Any time I can get on the podium,
that’s a win in my book.”
Cross Kirchmeier claimed the win in the UTV 901-1000cc
Class after jumping out to the early lead, but
he real battle was for the second spot between
Sandy Thomas and Glenn Hess battling in the new
Yamaha YXZ 1000R machines. Thomas was able to
hold off Hess to claim the second spot.

Kirchmeier Took the UTV 901-1000cc Win |
“The Yamaha did great off the start,” said Thomas.
“We really didn’t know how well it would work,
being that it’s a brand new side by side. It did
great the whole race and we had a lot of fun.
Shifting the transmission is a little different,
but I think it gave us an advantage today.”

2nd spot in the most exciting UTV battle
of the day with the Yamaha's going at it |
Kamber Kirchmeier came away with the win in the
UTV 750-900cc class ahead of Matt Horton and Curtis
Kirchmeier.

Attendance was down for this year’s event in
the UTV classes even with the big payouts to our
surprise, so hopefully more people will take advantage
of this great event next year, which will be back
at Oak Hill Raceway in Texas with an even bigger
UTV purse at the Pro Challenge in Memory of Caleb
Moore.
