Buchanan, MI (7/28/2012) –
Yamaha’s Chad Wienen winning streak continued
at Red Bud as Wienen claimed his third straight
win at Round 9 of the 2012 AMA ATV Motocross Championships,
while Baldwin Motorsport’s Josh Upperman claimed
second on the podium with Can-Am / Motoworks’
John Natalie Jr in third.
Red Bud saw plenty of action this weekend as
the points battles heated up. After taking the
moto one win, it seemed that DWT’s John
Natalie would be seeking redemption, but that
would not be the case after Natalie’s moto
two crash that allowed Chad Wienen to run away
with another moto two win for the overall victory.

Yamaha’s Chad Wienen took the ATVriders.com
fastest qualifier award, but the number 44 racer
did not get the start he was looking for in the
first moto. “I didn’t get the start
I wanted so I had to go out there and just put
my head down, said Wienen. Wienen was able to
easily make his way around Joel Hetrick and Josh
Creamer before chasing down Thomas Brown, who
was in second. “Thomas was riding really
good and I was able to get him in the last lap
and take second,” said Wienen, who was looking
for a win in the second moto.

Maxxis'
#44 Chad Wienen started mid pack in Moto
One, but Wienen was on the move as he charged
his way up into the 2nd spot when he made
his final pass on #84 Thomas Brown through
the whoops to claim the 2nd spot in Moto
One behind Natalie |
Wienen got a much better start in moto two as
he shot off the start in second behind Josh Upperman.
Wienen waited for an opportunity and made a clean
pass for the lead at the midway point of the moto.
Once out front, Wienen pulled away and kept a
steady pace for the moto two win and the top spot
on the podium.
“It was a good moto for me. I had a good
start, which really helped and I felt good out
there. Josh was running really good and I waited
until I could make a clean pass on him and once
I did, I set a good pace and tried to race smart
and take it to the finish line,” said Wienen.

Yamaha's
#44 Chad Wienen took the Moto 2 win ahead
of #20 Josh Upperman to claim the overall
win |
The battle for the championship will come down
to the final round of racing, but Wienen only
needs a maximum of 15 points to wrap-up his first
AMA Pro ATV Championship over Natalie, so a strong
finish in moto one would secure the championship
for Wienen at the Loretta Lynn’s season
finale
