AMA ATV Motocross Amateur Championship Awards Banquet
::Continued::

The Hard Luck award came along a bit later and once again Rodney lead us down a road that made you really feel for this rider. How a couple of times this rider made Friday Practice and then had to pack up and head home as his quad couldn’t make the races on Saturday and Sunday. How his quad failed him a few times during the races and left him high and dry for the weekend. Ricky Crosby was the less than proud recipient of this award and continued his stories after accepting the award. Let’s all hope that Ricky has a far better year in 2012 and passes the torch on to another unsuspecting racer.

Schoolboy 13-15 ATV Class

School Boy Jr. (13-15) Class Top Finishers

Team of the Year award went to The Media Allstars. The recipient of the award managed to get through the award presentation while having to stop a few times as he was getting choked up. He passed the credit along to Jorge Cuartas the team manager as being the driving force behind the team and that if it were not for Jorge, this never could have happened. How sponsors of the team were the ones that helped many of the team afford the racing season as many of them could not afford to do it alone. It is nice to see the sponsors of the sport come together and support the sport in a payback position.

Sponsor of the year award went to the newest sponsor on the circuit DWT Tires. DWT had made it to every round this season and were very happy to be a part of the series. It was also mentioned that DWT will once again be the series title sponsor for the 2012 season as well. Thanks again for providing the trackside support and help to the riders, I am sure they are looking forward to seeing you at the races again next season.

Later in the awards Joel Hetrick was called up to announce the Youth Rider of the Year. This fit in nicely as Joel was presented with this award a few times not long ago in his career. This award went to a rider that not only had a great year on the track, but also set an example off the track for what a true racer that loves the sport and her fellow racers. Elizabeth Vogt won the award and there were great stories to support her win. Not only did she win 90CVT Limited (8-15) but she also placed 6th in girls (8-15) class.

Vogt Family Traxxas R/C Car Raffle
Clay Pearson

Also, two times during the race season, the Vogt family raffled off a Traxxas remote control truck, and the proceeds were donated to the Pearson family. Pearson was the youth rider who had a serious accident in Pennsylvania and has made remarkable headway in his recovery to date. Pearson also attended the awards ceremony as he still made the top ten in two classes.

Mark Madl - ATV Rider of the Year
Pro-Am Production Champion Mark Madl was awarded with top honors at the banquet by receiving the AMA ATV MX Rider of the Year Award
At the conclusion of the awards given out to all of the classes was the big award for the night. Rider of the Year. This year the award went to the hard charging Mark Madl. Mark had a hard fought year in both Pro-Am classes. After watching all but one weekend of these Pro-Am races, I firmly believe that they were the best races of the year. Whether it was the Saturday or the Sunday race, the battles were fierce. Madl was edged out in the Unlimited class by Rastrelli on the final round but turned his aggression around for the Sunday Production win and captured the title in the final weekend by edging out Casey Martin in the final round.

Madl confirmed that he could have had a far better year if he could have made a good start. In every round this season Madl made charges through the pack to finish strong and finally wrap up one of the two titles. This was enough to land Madl the Rider of the Year Award and make his announcement that he will be moving up to the Pro Ranks for the 2012 season. His key Sponsors will be joining him as well making their name heard in his AMA Pro ATV MX debut, which is just 5 months away.
