–Rookie pro, Joel Hetrick took on the competition
and came out on top, winning both motos and taking
the top spot on the podium at round number eight
of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championships. Baldwin
Motorsports’ Josh Upperman claimed the number
two spot on the podium and closed in a little more
on points leader John Natalie who took the final
spot on the pro podium.
The hard packed track at Unadilla got quite rough
and took its toll on racers as the day wore on
and the warm temperatures also played a factor
in endurance, but rookie pro, Joel Hetrick was
unstoppable despite the rough conditions.

Racing's #88 Joel Hetrick made a statement
in Moto One when he charged past Janssen's
#123 Nick DeNoble in lap 5 to take over
the lead with Hetrick going on to claim
the fastest laptime of the day with a 01:43.945
as he charged away from the pack

Hetrick Racing’s Joel Hetrick charged hard
to take the moto one win. Hetrick was in third
off the start behind Richard Pelchat and Nick
DeNoble and kept the pressure on until he was
able to get a good line and take away second from
Pelchat.
From there, Hetrick went to work on DeNoble and
after several laps, he took over the lead. Once
out front Hetrick began to pull away and crossed
the finish line with a seven second lead over
the competition.

Moto two went even better for Hetrick as he charged
off the line, taking the holeshot and immediately
pulling away. Hetrick kept on the gas and increased
his lead to over five seconds before reaching
the checkered flag, taking his second moto win
and his first overall pro career win.

#88 Joel Hetrick was challenged by Baldwin's
#20 Josh Upperman early on in the Moto,
but Hetrick gained ground of Upperman with
each passing lap as Hetrick went on to claim
his 2nd straight Moto Win for a Perfect
1-1 day for the Pro Rookie, Hetrick, claiming
a career first overall win |
“I had a really good race and everything
just came together for me today. I was a little
nervous out there, but I was able to go out there
and get it done. I’ve always had good luck
at Unadilla and I’m very excited to be up
here!” said Hetrick excitedly.
