Ireland -
A slightly overcast and cooler Sunday morning greeted
the riders as they prepared for the second day of
action, the fantastic Cookstown and District team
doing an excellent job to prep the track overnight,
and with the addition of the full Grand Prix layout
being used for the day the scene was set for some
more excellent action.

#83 Jason
Macbeth passed fellow KTM racer #1 Paul
Winrow for the lead in Moto One, but would
later succumb to Winrow's pressure &
be bumped back to the second place position
|
A dramatic start to the opening heat saw Paul Holmes
unable to make it to the start line, his chain de-railing
on the sighting lap and ruling him out of the race!
Winrow took the holeshot to lead the opening lap
from local riders Goss and Wray with Macbeth and
Bunce in pursuit, with Championship leader Mitchell
in 7th, Macbeth passing Winrow for the lead a few
laps later with Wray fending off the challenge of
Watson who had charged through from an opening lap
9th just ahead of Bunce.
At half distance the top two remained the same
with Watson ahead of Wray, Mitchell and Beda with
very little separating the top six, but unluckily
for Mitchell he too became the victim of the “chain
gang” with three laps to go and a premature
end to his race. As the two-lap board came out
Winrow made his move on team-mate Macbeth for
the lead, and at the chequered flag it was Winrow
from Macbeth and Watson, Bunce taking 4th with
Stefan Murphy taking a well deserved 5th and victory
in the Under 21 class.

#111
John Mitchell's win streak ended in Moto
1 on Sunday when his chain snapped, which
left him sidelined |
KTM's
#85 Mark Watson claimed the third spot ahead
of #5 Carl Bunce in Moto One |
Eager to make up for the disappointing opening moto,
it was Holmes who lead the pack in race two from
Winrow, Watson and Bunce, Goss again getting a blinder
of a start to keep the locals happy with Mitchell
and Macbeth in tow. Making excellent use of the
back section of the circuit, Watson scythed through
to lead on lap two from Winrow and Holmes, with
Mitchell moving up to 4th.
With battles raging throughout the field the
half way mark saw Mitchell take the lead from
Watson and gradually pull a three second gap,
Mitchell taking the chequered flag after twelve
gruelling laps from Watson with Winrow just a
second behind, Bunce continuing his consistent
run in 4th followed by Macbeth.
