Defending Champion,
Paul Winrow, Regain Points Lead at Round 2
::Continued::
|
#1 KTM's Paul
Winrow came on strong for Round 2 securing
the 1st & 3rd Moto Wins, which boosted
him back into the points lead over John
Mitchell
|
Stefan Murphy nailed the holeshot in the final outing
of the weekend to lead the heavily depleted twenty-four
strong field out on the opening lap with Winrow,
Macbeth and Mitchell giving chase, but Watson’s
chances of a possible overall win were dealt a cruel
blow as he got caught in a multi bike pile up on
the second corner to get away second last. As the
riders completed the first full lap of the one mile
layout, it was Mitchell who had taken the lead from
Winrow and Macbeth, Bunce also getting the better
of early leader Murphy who was coming under pressure
from Holmes.
As the race progressed the leading pair began
to pull away from the rest of the field and once
again kept the crowd on their toes with never
more than a second splitting them, Winrow making
his move for the lead at two-thirds distance and
taking the chequered flag for the overall victory
and the lead in the series, Mitchell finishing
2nd from Macbeth and Bunce, with Watson finishing
an amazing 5th to take 3rd overall on the day
just behind Macbeth.
After taking the overall win and the lead in
the series, Winrow commented “It’s
been a really good weekend and I’m really
happy to come away with the lead in the series.
The Team KTM UK 505 SX is working really well
and I’m still adapting to it, so this has
been a fantastic result and start to the season.
I’d like to thank everyone in the team,
all our sponsors and all my family and friends
who help and support us along the way, but I would
especially like to dedicate my overall win today
to my dad, this one was for him.”
